President Donald Trump Unveiled a peace agreement on 27 June between the Democratic Republic of the Congo And RwandaFocused on stopping long -term violence in eastern Congo and the unlocking of US economic development in the region.
The announcement of the treaty follows increasing international concern about the alleged support of Rwanda to rebel troops that destabilize mineral-rich parts of Eastern Congo.
The agreement comes as part of the broader strategy of the Trump government to put an end to global conflicts and American investments in strategic regions, to facilitate USA Today report.

Secretary Marco Rubio played a crucial role in securing the deal, with a formal signing ceremony with Congolese Foreign Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner and Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before they bring both diplomats to the Oval Office.
Eastern Congo has suffered unrest for decades, fueled by territorial disputes and competition on valuable natural resources such as cobalt and copper, uses USA Today.
The DRC government blames the M23 rebel group– who says the UN is supported by Rwanda – for thousands of deaths and the relocation of more than 450,000 citizens this year alone. Rwanda denies any involvement.
Senior administration advisor Massad Bouloswho is also connected to the Van Trump family, is reportedly in conversation to secure mineral supply deals that can channel billions of dollars in the DRC economy.
The Trump administration sees peace as a way to stabilizing the region and stimulating access to critical minerals that are essential for electrical vehicles, consumer electronics and national security.
This newest agreement builds on Trump’s efforts to get stakes -furen in Gaza and Ukraine.
According to officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Convention covers a cease -the fire, respect for boundaries, refugees return and a regional economic framework -although they warn that real peace will depend on the actual implementation on the spot.
