The Trinamool Congress Leadership On Saturday (October 4, 2025) emphasized the recently released report from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) to emphasize that Kolkata has registered one of the lowest crime in the country.

Several ministers of the ruling party in West Bengal emphasized the rate of crime in Kolkata and praised the leadership of Minister President Mamata Banerjee. According to the crime in India, 2023 published in the last week of September 2025 Kolkata 83.9 Recognizable violations registered per one Lakh population. Crime rate is calculated in terms of registered crime per population.

“With Only 83.9 Cognizable Offenscess per One Lakh population, Kolkata Records The Lowest Crime Rate Among 19 Major Indian Cities With Population 20 Lakh. For the Fourth Consecutive Year, Kolkata has been the Visionary to Visional, a Testament A Testament @Mamataofficial … ”The Trinamool Congress Quoted Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya As Saying. Minister of Women and Child Development Sashi Panja also went to social media and said that Kolkata has been the safest city for women for the fourth time in a row.

“Kolkata confirms its position for the fourth time as the safest city in India, a reflection of the Hon’ble Chief Minister @Mamataofficial’s Vision and its Zero -Tolerance approach to crime,” placed Trinamool on social media.

However, the BJP leadership in the state disputed the claims that Kolkata was the safest city. Spokesperson Keya Ghosh, BJP, said that the NCRB does not generate its own data and publishes reports on the basis of what the state government is sent. Mrs. Ghosh claimed that the data from the West Bengal to the NCRB are manipulated to present a rosy image. The BJP leader also pointed out that the same NCRB report has emphasized that West Bengalen registered the highest incidents of an acid attack in 2023. The State registered 57 of the 207 incidents of acid attacks throughout the country.

Only a year ago protests against the rape and murder of a duty doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and the hospital had Kolkata in one piece for weeks. In recent years, the leadership of the Trinamool Congress had emphasized the low crime in Kolkata that in the NCRB report is reflected as a great success of the law and order situation under the regime.

Experts point to the inequality in what is reflected in the NCRB report and the situation on the ground while it refers to the unbridled political violence in the state. During the Panchayat polls in West Bengal in 2023, the state had registered widespread political violence and about 50 deaths, while the NCRB report for the same year only registered one political murder in West Bengalen in 2023.

On the day on which the ruling party of the State emphasized that Kolkata was the safest city, there were reports of three violent deaths, one from Baranagar in the north house of the city and two from the Murshidabad district. While an owner of a jeweler killed Baranagar, the dead in Murshidabad were killed in raw bomb explosions.
