Then it was time for the very last travel news round of the year, and with this we look ahead to 2026. This week we pay extra attention to new experiences in Sweden 2026: Anniversaries, new restaurants, new hotels and new nature and adventure experiences.

Many Swedes prefer to celebrate Christmas and New Year abroad

New Sifo research from TUI shows that one in six Swedes (16 percent) wants to exchange Christmas celebrations at home for a holiday abroad. For families with children, the figure is even higher: one in five (19 percent) would prefer to travel away.
Young adults aged 18 to 35 are the most likely to stay at home during Christmas – barely one in ten wants to celebrate abroad.

The result is increasing just in time for the new year, according to the research. More than one in five Swedes (22 percent) prefer to celebrate the New Year abroad, and among families with children this applies to one in four (26 percent). According to booking figures from TUI, most Swedes will travel to Gran Canaria, Thailand and Egypt for Christmas and New Year this year.

Many people want to go on holiday without a mobile phone

Many Swedes feel the need to reduce their digital presence during the holidays. According to a new survey conducted by Sifo on behalf of Ticket, 57 percent of Swedes indicate that they can imagine completely or partially reducing their mobile phone use on holiday.

Of these, 36 percent respond that they can imagine partially giving up their cell phone and unsubscribing from social media, while 11 percent can imagine a completely cell-free vacation. Another 10 percent say they can imagine simply giving up on emails.
