In the sixth episode of “Belgian Division One Transactions For 2026” we focus on the team that achieved a shared third place in 2025: Deurne Spartans.
It really saddens you to report that there has been a significant exodus from the ranks of the Deurne Spartans. According to my source, five players left the club and only one outside player was added to the 2026 roster.
Departure:
Victor Vandervelden leaves Spartans for Division Two club Gent Knights.
Mauro van Mook returns to the Brussels Kangaroos, but last year he was on the roster of the Spartans and played in the Netherlands with Oosterhout Twins. Since he has had a good season in the Netherlands and no news has been published about his departure from the club, there is a good chance that he will stay with Oosterhout Twins and only join the Kangaroos if Twins are eliminated at an early stage.
José Luis Larrinaga Ocampo will also leave the Spartans for the Ghent Knights.
Nabil Tauil will join the Merchtem Cats, as mentioned in the previous blog post on Division One transactions. He played just two games for the Spartans’ flagship team in 2025.
Nasser Tauil has handed over his uniform, but it is unclear where he will go or if he will continue playing baseball at all.
According to my source, only one player has been added so far. A certain Samuel from the Merchtem Cats would join the Spartans. Looking at the rosters of both Division One and Division Two teams, there is only one Samuel on the Cats’ 2025 rosters: Samuel Almao Mogollon. But that would contradict my previous blog post about the Merchtem Cats in which I wrote that no player would leave.
Regardless, Spartans has taken a blow with the loss of five players.
