The end of another year! This was the most relaxing December I can remember in a long time. Christmas Day was spent as usual with our daughter, son-in-law and the grandchildren. I usually drive to Yorkshire on Boxing Day to spend time with my family. My mother and father are both in their 80s and have had a tough year and my mother said she couldn’t cope with the work involved in preparing and organizing two Christmases. They didn’t ‘celebrate’ Christmas this year. Obviously I missed seeing everyone, but I can’t say I missed the 300 mile round trip. We just had a quiet, relaxing day on the 26th.
Sue and I aren’t really concerned about New Year’s Eve. She volunteers to work on New Year’s Day so she can have Christmas off. That means she’s in bed by 8 p.m. at the latest. In the twenty years we’ve been together, I’ve never really understood why she goes to bed so early before a day at work. She gets up at 3:30!
So even for me, New Year’s Eve is spent with the dogs. As soon as the fireworks start, I sit on the rug with a dog on either side. They were never concerned with fireworks, until the current trend of fireworks that you can both feel and hear. They react differently to the sound. Charlie the collie cross barks to deter anything that attacks the house. Molly just sits there shaking. The loud bangs make her panic and she tries to get upstairs. She is very good at opening doors. If I can keep Charlie reasonably calm, Molly doesn’t get too excited about his barking. Hopefully everything will be quiet around 1am, although last year there were still fireworks going off until almost 2am. I need to get some sleep before I get up at six to take Sue to work.
I always look forward to the new tennis season, but this year, just this time, I really want to get started. I feel more rested and the mental batteries are more charged than in recent years.
I won’t worry about the United Cup. I prefer to bet money on players who you know are motivated to win 95% of the time. You don’t always have that at team events. So for me the season starts on Sunday with Brisbane.
There should be more free content on the blog this year with more posts on trading tips, so look out for that!
Have a wonderful New Year!
