The Asean Toyota Yaris Cross has had something of a quiet life since it was revealed in 2023, but more than two years later it was finally tested by ASEAN NCAP. The B-segment SUV has received a solid five-star rating in Indonesian-Speceste, matching rivals such as the Nissan Kicks, Mitsubishi Xforce, Chery Omoda 5 and GAC GS3 EMZOOM.

Splitting the results, the Yaris Cross scored 29.28 points from 32 in the security protection of adults (AOP), 44.17 points from 51 for children’s protection for children (COP), 17.74 points of 21 for safety assisters and 9.76 points of 16 for the safety of the motorcycle; The total score was 83.02%. The car is tested under the 2021-2025 assessment protocol, the last year before new regulations start next year.

Helping the Yaris -Ace The test is the fact that it comes standard with six airbags and stability control. The Toyota Safety Sense Suite or Driver Assists, including autonomous emergency brakes, lane assistance, blind spot monitoring and automatic high beam, are applied at higher equipment levels.

Interestingly, the Yaris Cross is also mentioned as in Malaysia for the Malaysian market. That is clearly not the case at the moment, given that UMW Toyota Motor does not sell the car here, so it can simply be an error from ASEAN NCAP.

But could it be that the renewed interest of the Malaysian office in the Yaris cross (after all, it had every chance to test the car in the last two years) are an indication of a movement on the local front? Remember that Perodua was reportedly to work on a B-segment crossover, reportedly Codenaam D66B, even for years before the Yaris cross was unveiled.

Perodua even went so far that the trademark the names Traz and Nexis, almost certainly for this new model. But the path suddenly got cold last year and we can assume that this was because the national car manufacturer had to turn quickly to build its own electric vehicle in the house. Now that it is at the end of the development (the car will be launched at the end of the year), can we see that this project will be restarted? We look forward to it popping up somewhere next year.
