Rescue operation is going to evacuate stranded tourists after roads were blocked after landslide caused by heavy rainfall, in Noord -Sikkim
In the midst of landslides and a bus accident in Sikkim, the tourism and civil aviation department of the state of tourists advised to be careful and plan their travels based on the latest road and weather updates of official sources. Now that the monsoon season is approaching, heavy rainfall in the region can lead to landslides and roadblocks, in particular on routes that lead to external tourist destinations, said Sikkim Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, according to a release.
It said that the safety of people who visit the state remains a top priority. In the case of roadblocks or unforeseen circumstances, the necessary auxiliary and evacuation support will immediately be offered to the stranded tourists. Furthermore, with the constant pursuit of North District Administration, in particular DC and SP, the Chungthang-Phidang-Weg in the Mangan district has now been restored and the safe evacuation of stranded tourists started from Monday.
The search and rescue operation for the nine missing tourists (including the driver) involved in the tragic vehicle accident in Mangan District on 19 May 2025 is still underway. The operation is carried out under the close supervision of the district police, the district administration, ITBP, Army, Tourism & Civil Aviation Department, Bro, NDRF, Gref, Fire and Medical Teams, Taas and other stakeholders of Tourism, IHCAEE Chemchey, Driver Association. It said that two tourists, who were saved and had received medical treatment in the STNM hospital, Gangtok, are now in a stable state and recover well.
