Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ‘very interested’ in signing Brentford striker Igor Thiago Caught offside.
The Bees bought the Brazilian ahead of last season as a replacement for Ivan Toney. However, he was unable to serve his club well last season due to injury problems, meaning he only made one Premier League start.
He has put in impressive performances so far this season, scoring twelve goals in fourteen games in all competitions. Brentford are currently mid-table with 18 points from 13 games in the league.
Now, Caught offside claim that Tottenham are showing a strong interest in signing the 24-year-old after closely monitoring his development. However, the Lilywhites are not the only club interested in the South American, with Newcastle United and Aston Villa also making plans.
Unai Emery wants a new striker as a long-term replacement for Ollie Watkins. On the other hand, the Magpies are eyeing the Brazilian as Yoane Wissa has struggled with fitness issues so far this season.
Brentford do not want to part ways with Thiago in January, but it is ‘highly likely’ they will receive an offer from Spurs, Newcastle or Aston Villa for his signature. Thomas Frank’s team even wants him to go on loan initially, with an option to make the transfer permanent next summer.
Thiago to Tottenham
The forward has three and a half years left on his current contract, and his potential suitors are hoping to sign him for around £35 million. However, Brentford usually play hard to sell their star players, and they would likely demand more than that amount to facilitate his departure next year.
Tottenham got off to a good start this season under Frank but have struggled in recent weeks, failing to win in their last six consecutive home games and losing four.
The Danish boss likes to use a powerful number 9, who can hold up the game. However, with Dominic Solanke injured, Spurs are without a new striker with a similar profile as Mathys Tel, Richarlison and Randal Kolo Muani are not targets.
Thiago could therefore be a smart signing for the north London club should they ultimately manage to secure his services in January or next summer.
