I was never a fan of Ange Postecoglou, but the news ahead of this afternoon’s match suggests I was too harsh on him on Tottenham’s injuries.
The centre-backs are the worst affected, with Drăgușin, Davies, Romero (recently back) and Takai all affected. This has led to tactical adjustments from the former Brentford coach. Central defender Radu Drăgușin has a knee injury and is not expected back until the end of this month.
Ben Davies, who operates as a central defender or left back, has a hamstring problem that will keep him sidelined until the end of November.
Newby Kota Takai is out with a foot injury, for which there is very little information. Destiny Udogie will hopefully be available for today’s match but will certainly be subjected to a late fitness test.
The same could be said of Cristian Romero, who picked up a kidnapping problem after the international break.
In midfield, Archie Gray is the latest to succumb to the physio room, with a calf muscle problem. James Maddison, as we all know, is recovering from a torn ACL. Yves Bissouma is struggling with an ankle ligament.
Dejan Kulusevski is on the mend after kneecap surgery, and Dominic Solanke is recovering after the procedure.
And finally, Wilson Odobert will be subjected to a late fitness test.
The form guide for Tottenham vs Chelsea
The story of this often difficult derby dates back to 1909. In all competitions, Chelsea has the upper hand in this legendary match.
Chelsea’s dominance has been particularly evident in recent decades, with seven wins in the last ten Premier League encounters alone.
In our last five Premier League games we have won two, lost one and drawn two.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have lost three and won two.
Captain Cristian Romero, fullback Destiny Udogie and forward Wilson Odobert are all available after injury, but as we can see this is a small crumb of comfort considering the many adjustments he has to make.
