It has been a very different summer so far for Alex de Minaur and Arthur Fils. The Minaur comes from a title in Washington, DC; Fils has not played since the French open. They are both in Toronto Masters Action on Wednesday.

Francisco Comesana vs. (9) Alex de Minaur

The Minaur immediately comes back in gear for the National Bank Open after lifting the Washington, DC Trophy on Sunday evening dramatic fashion. The 26-year-old Australian saved three championship points before he survived Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (3) in three hours and three minutes. Success at the start of the North American Hard-Court Summer is nothing new for the Minaur, who was a double champion in Atlanta. He also finished second to Jannik Sinner at the same Toronto tournament in 2023.

Wednesday first for the Minaur is a date in the second round with Comesana, which he never confronted. Comesana Advanced by Damir Dzumhur 6-3, 7-5 to be beat on Monday. The 71st ranking order Argentin is still only 13-15 on the main tour this season and he does most of his damage to clay in contrast to hard courts. Fitness has never been a problem for the Minaur (and that is an understatement!), So he should be able to make a quick turning around last week and let his momentum go to Toronto.

Pick: by Minaur in 2

(15) Arthur Fils vs. Pablo Carreno Busta

Fils play for the first time since then Roland Garros When he goes against Carreno Busta on Wednesday. The 21st ranking list survived a five-set thriller against Jaume Munar during the second round action in Paris, but then withdrew due to a back injury.

In addition to a late withdrawal, Fils takes a 1-0 lead on this matchup. Earlier they were only a few months ago in Barcelona, where the 21-year-old prevailed on 7-6 (6), 6-3. The 34-year-old Carreno Busta is somewhat rusty, itself. In principle, he missed the whole of 2023 and the first half of 2025, but at least he is back in the top 100 at number 93 in the ranking. Carreno Busta defeated Liam Draxl 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 on Monday evening for his first victory at tour level since the French Open First Round. Almost all of this amounts to the physical condition of Fils; If he is 100 percent, he should easily win.

Pick: fils in 2
