The Diamondbacks bring manager Torey Lovullo back for what his 10th season will be, as reported for the first time by Nick Piecoro of the Republic of Arizona. Lovullo was already under contract for another year after signing an extension shortly after the team won the National Competition Wimper in 2023.
Although the diamondbacks do not apply management change, it seems that they will keep Lovullo in a lame duck setup. John Gambadoro from 98.7 FM Reports that 60-year-old Lovullo is not expected to sign an extension outside season this season. Teams generally shy away from having managers and top -front office staff when falsifying deals, but it seems that leadership in Arizona is satisfied with that scheme on the way to 2026.
The D-Backs have failed the play-offs in each of the two seasons after their competition championship. Last year’s team won 89 games and ended on the outside on the last day of the season. They brought a backup of an 80-82 finish that was celebrated this year in the NL West. The collapse of the Mets helped keep the Diamondbacks mathematically alive in the last weekend, but they ended with their first losing season since 2022.
They have dramatically performed the expenditure in each of the last two winters. They have most of their free agent activity aimed at rotation. None of the deals for Corbin Burnes” Eduardo Rodriguez or Jordan Montgomery have worked out. All three pitchers have been a combination of ineffective or injured. The snakes each signed of Kettle mars” Brandon Pfaadt” Geraldo Per Domo And Justin Martinez Until extensions last winter.
With all that spirit, owner Ken Kendrick told Gambadoro On Sunday he was “never more disappointed in a season than this because (their) expectations were so high.” Kendrick expanded that comment during an appearance on the Burns & Gambo Show This afternoon, saying that it is largely rooted in the injuries that have destroyed the pitching staff. Losing Burnes to Tommy John Surgery was the biggest blow, but the snakes were also left behind with a patchwork bullpen for more than four months in seasonal injuries to Martinez and AJ Puk.
The Diamondbacks sold threatening free agents Merrill Kelly” Eugenio Suárez” Josh Naylor” Shelby Miller And Randal Grichuk At the deadline. It is their honor that they did not call in their last two months. The snakes went 29-24 after the deadline. It ended on disappointing fashion with a five-game losing series, but they remained unlikely in the late season periphery with a bull pen that mainly consisted of rookies or depth pickups.
Lovullo came under fire in the middle of August when reports came to the fore that some players were frustrated with Marte because they had taken too many games. The manager defended his star second Honkman, who subsequently apologized To miss the first few games of the second half after returning to the Dominican Republic after the All-Star Break. Marte later said he was upset when he heard that his house had been broken into in Arizona while attending the All-Star festivities. The ownership of D-backs and the Front Office are clearly automatically that Lovullo has treated the situation well enough not to lose the clubhouse.
Managing Director Mike Hazen is also going up his tenth season. Lovullo had worked with Hazen with the Red Sox and followed him not long after the GM accepted to the desert. The D-Backs have made two-season berths in their nine seasons. They won 93 competitions and were bounced in the division series in 2017. The NL Championship season ’23 is their only other play -off berth during that piece. The D-Backs have a .490 regular seasonal profit percentage under Lovullo.
