UFC legend Tony Ferguson has revealed advice he once received from his former Ultimate Fighter coach Brock Lesnar.
This weekend, Tony Ferguson will take on Warren Spencer as he looks to successfully defend his MFB Middleweight Championship. He won the title against Salt Papi via TKO, which served as his first combat sports victory since 2019 after a run that saw him lose eight in a row towards the end of his mixed martial arts career.
Now Tony Ferguson will be hoping to continue his resurgence and prove he still has a lot left in the tank. Regardless, his legacy in the UFC’s lightweight division speaks for itself, and it all started courtesy of his journey on TUF under Brock Lesnar.
In a recent interview, Tony Ferguson spoke openly about advice he once received from the former UFC heavyweight champion.
Tony Ferguson received advice from Brock Lesnar
“I had a conversation with coach Brock [Lesnar] and I asked him, I can’t remember after what loss it was or what kind of fight it was, and the coach always says the same thing: save your money and pay your taxes,” Ferguson told MMA Fighting. “Never really screw it up on too many things. A smart damn guy. Save your money [he tells me] every damn time.
‘The other thing was [he said] “You should think about retiring, Tony.”
Ferguson said he took the advice because of the respect he has for Lesnar, as opposed to the criticism he receives from those who haven’t fought.
“Why should I listen to someone who isn’t in my shoes?” said Ferguson. “You’re not here. You don’t fucking know what it takes to be here. You may have your fucking opinions, but you’re not going to sit here through the bulls**t with me. No one does. The ice baths, the fucking sauna, the fucking running, the late night bikes, no one fucking does that.”
‘For you to criticize me, and fuck every other person who comes here and does these things, [f*ck you].’”
