Before the AJ booking was finalized, several people were apparently contacted, including the only man to beat Paul in the boxing ring, Tommy Fury. Although he didn’t mention the British fighter by name and took to his personal X-page to fire some shots, Paul stated:
“Respect to all the fighters who said yes. We had to put all options on the table and make a decision. Guess who didn’t say yes, even for $15 million. Bi**h made you and your father, who controls everything you do. You’re not a man. You’re a boy. Daddy’s little boy.”
To take to his X account to respond to ‘The Problem Child’ Fury said:
‘I’m offering my fight in America… a place you know I can’t get to right now. Handy [laughs]. Offer me the same $15 million anywhere else in the world and I’ll be there in eight weeks to shut you up and repeat what I did the first time. And ‘daddy’s little boy’? If anyone here is a son, it’s you…I gave you your first L. @jakepaul”
Tommy Fury vs. Jake Paul: the story of the first fight
Tommy Fury and Jake Paul went down in February 2023 in what was seen by some as a closely contested fight. Fury secured the victory over Paul by split decision, although the latter was able to record a knockdown of the former in the later stages of the fight.
Attempts to engineer a follow-up clash between the two have been unsuccessful in recent years, and as evidenced above, there are certain hurdles to attempts to book such a rematch.
