It’s safe to say that Tom Aspinall isn’t happy, and who can blame him? At UFC 321, he suffered a double eye stab at the hands of Ciryl Gane, which prevented him from continuing in the match. From that point on, we haven’t heard much about his overall condition. Now, however, the man himself has released an update, noting that he’s undergone some pretty important tests and hasn’t been cleared to return to training yet.

Aspinall, strangely enough, faced a lot of criticism, with many people calling him a quitter. While Gane is also mentioned a lot, much of the focus seems to be on the idea that a rematch should be booked, and also that the Frenchman performed quite well in the build-up to the eye-pokes.
In a recent video, Aspinall gave his opinion on whether or not Gane cheated intentionally.
Aspinall’s take on Gane’s UFC 321 ‘cheating’
“When it initially happened, I didn’t really think about it,” Aspinall said in a video on his YouTube channel. “I thought: ‘Accidentally poked the eyes.’ Whatever. Look, when I watch the fight again, I understand the essence of what’s going on. The guy tried to gouge my eyes out the entire lap. In multiple exchanges, in every exchange where I could put him in danger, he pointed his fingers at my eyes. … The guy cheated from the first second. The way he wanted to win in that fight was to put me in danger by cheating.
“I think he’s a big cheater. Look at all his fights. Even Jon Jones himself, the GOAT himself, said Ciryl Gane is a cheater and uses dirty tactics.”
