The ITTF-ATTU Asian Cup is underway in Haikou, the Capitol of China’s Hainan Island province. Wang Chuqin and Lin Shidong were the event’s top two seeds, while Tomokazu Harimoto and Xiang Peng were among the many stars in action.

Wang Chuqin reached the semi-finals with relative ease, recording a 3-0 win over Izaac Quek and a 4-2 victory over Zhou Qihao. Taipei’s Chang Yu-An faced Chuqin in the semi-finals on Sunday. Yu-An defeated Uda Yukiya 4-3 in the quarterfinals.

In the other half of the draw, Xiang Peng suffered a first-round upset – a 2-3 defeat to Hong Kong’s Lam Siu Hang. Tomokazu Harimoto won both of his early matches easily: a 3-0 win over Shinozuka and then a 4-0 win over Lam.

The biggest disappointment of the tournament was caused by Shunsuke Togami, who defeated Lin Shidong 4-3. Togami was actually down 1-3 before running away with three in a row to secure the win. Togami now moves on to Harimoto on Sunday.
