The Tamil Nadu legislative meeting On Wednesday (April 23, 2025), tributed to the 26 victims of a terror attack that took place on Tuesday (April 22, 2025) in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in the Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir.

Speakingly in the meeting, Chief Minister MK Stalin condemned the attack that focused on innocent tourists, and extended sincere condolences to the families of the deceased. Pahalgam is a popular tourist destination that is visited by people from all over India and abroad. The attack on innocent civilians is deeply condemning. A terrorist organization has claimed responsibility and such outfits must be treated with an iron hand, he said.

Helpline center

He also said that he had ordered the establishment of a special helpline center around the clock in Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi to help and communicate with affected people from Tamil Nadu. The resident commissioner in Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi has been instructed to coordinate all related efforts. Furthermore, Aftab Rasool, IAS, extra collector (development) of the Pudukkottai district, is instructed to reach the Pahalgam region to perform coordination efforts.

Mr Stalin also remembered earlier terrorist attacks, including the Amarnath Yatra attack of 2017 that claimed eight lives and the Pulwama attack of 2019, in which 40 CRPF staff were killed. He repeated that terrorism has no place on the Indian soil.

The leader of the opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami condemned the attack and expansion of the family members of the deceased persons, urged the state government to expand medical assistance to the wounded persons from Tamil Nadu and to take steps to bring them back.
