A sizzling heat wave brings dangerously hot conditions to the Chicago area from Wednesday, with high temperatures that sometimes “feel” up to 110 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service, a heat advice came into force at 10 am for almost very Illinois and Indiana and it will continue until Thursday evening. It is also in force for parts of Wisconsin, including Kenosha County.
So what can you expect and when?
Wednesday
The temperatures started on Wednesday in the 60s and are expected to rise as the day progresses, starting at 9 a.m., said the NBC 5 Storm team.
According to NWS, Wednesday to Thursday will be the ‘period of the most dangerous heat’.
Expect “very high heat index levels, very hot and humid conditions,” said NBC 5 Storm Team meteorologist Alicia Roman.
Around noon, the temperatures are expected to hit 100 to 103 degrees in many cities in the entire state, including Belvidere, Dekalb, Dixon and Rockford, according to the NWS predictions.
Peak Afternoon Heat Index values are expected to climb to around 100 to 110 degrees, the NWS warned.
The NWS added that the city of Chicago in particular will even be “suffocated” at night, with heat indices that remain in the 90s to the evenings and the temperatures only fall under 90 degrees for a few hours.
Thursday
The temperatures stay high all morning on Thursday.
By noon on Thursday, it is expected that most state of temperatures have above 100 degrees, according to the predictions of the NWS.
Around 3 p.m. on Thursday, storms, storms and heavy rain showers were to start withdrawing, Roman said, which will lower the temperature.
“Every storm can be serious and contain severe rainfall,” warned NWS.
The heat advice remains in force at 10 p.m. on Thursday, where heat index levels can reach up to 105 degrees.
Friday and at the weekend
NWS said that heat will relieve on Friday, but warns that “extra periods of slowly moving storms will produce gentlemen in the regent and localized floods will be able to produce on Thursday evening to Saturday.”
The temperatures on Friday are expected to fall from the mid-90s to 84 degrees and the on-and-off Stormy pattern is expected to continue until the weekend, Roman said.
