Wood paneling in the sunken lounge, plus an orange-brown shag rug to match the sofa – 15 Brickwood St is a quintessential Brady Brighton address.

A mid-century modernist time capsule from Brighton, so retro that even the furniture reflects its 1969 construction date, and buyers link it to the Brady Bunch.

Ironically, now that the sitcom’s cast has renovated the old Studio City house used to film the show in A Very Brady Renovation, the Brighton address actually has more in common with the original 1960s Brady Bunch house than it does with the same house today.

From the geometric front door to the sunken living room and wood-lined interior walls, the house has inspired cries of “Marsha, Marsha, Marsha” during inspections in recent weeks.

The home was designed by acclaimed mid-century architect and home builder Lewis Coote and has been maintained by the same owner since construction – including the furnishings, much of which is built into the home.

Nick Johnstone director Nick Johnstone said people had been walking through the house saying: “Marsha, Marsha, Marsha”.

“It looks like something out of the Brady Bunch,” Johnstone said.

“I have never seen this good and original in 25 years. Even the bedding is a mid-century design.”

The retro charm continues in the curved sofa and display board wall.

Both families and mid-century modernist fans are expected to participate in the auction, and buyers will be able to discuss whether they want to include some of the furniture in the purchase after the auction.

“A lot of people would like it to be a time capsule,” Johnstone said.

Mid-century modern charm is evident throughout, including turquoise tiled backsplashes and a built-in table in the kitchen, slate floors at the entry, wood paneling and classic wallpaper patterns.

Even the bedding of the Brighton home has a touch of 60s flair, matching the wallpaper.

The sunken lounge opens onto the home’s courtyard – although there are still earth-tone curtains to end the day if you want to watch a 60s classic such as Breakfast at Tiffanies or To Kill a Mocking Bird.

Classic wallpaper can still be found in the bedrooms, where bedding and furniture echo the home’s origins.

There is even a wooden mirror and a sky blue bath in the bathroom.

The décor is perfectly retro too, including a shag rug in the sunken lounge to match the sofa.

A sky blue bath, wooden mirror and frosted glass shower window will give some buyers flashbacks to their childhood.

Among the few concessions to contemporary living are split-system air conditioners.

The four-bedroom house, situated on a 776 square meter plot, will be auctioned on February 21 at 2.30pm with a price estimate of $3.2 million to $3.4 million.
