Just three minutes into the Minnesota Timberwolves’ home opener, Anthony Edwards left the game with a hamstring injury. Of course this is a worrying sight. After the game, head coach Chris Finch did not provide an update on Edwards.
No update from Finch on Anthony Edwards

Finch not downplaying Edwards’ injury is certainly a concerning sign, especially since hamstring injuries are not typically an everyday injury. Although more clarity will come in the coming days, Wolves fans are left in the dark for now.
Naz Reid did say that he thinks Ant will be fine and expects him to play tomorrow. Still, this isn’t an official update (and when this article was originally published, Naz’s quote had not yet appeared). While Reid’s quote conveys some optimism, it is also fair to be concerned that Finch did not downplay the injury.

No update is a worrying sign
I’m far from a doctor and could be wrong, but if Edwards were to leave Sunday’s game, I don’t see him playing in Monday’s game against the Denver Nuggets. Unfortunately, hamstring injuries are a week-to-week rather than day-to-day issue, so I’m bracing for Edwards to miss some time.
Hamstring injuries are notoriously difficult and there is a high risk of re-injury. That’s why I expect the Wolves to be cautious with Edwards. At the same time, nothing is known at this stage and it is purely speculation. The severity of hamstring injuries is also wide.
The main hope, of course, is that this doesn’t come close to being a serious injury and that Edwards returns to the court as soon as possible. However, it’s hard to argue that Finch not providing an update is a positive sign.
The impact of a possible Anthony Edwards injury
The Wolves ultimately earned a 114-110 victory despite Edwards leaving the game. It’s one thing to do so against an injury-ravaged Indiana Pacers team. However, dealing with a potential Edwards injury will pose challenges for Minnesota, especially if it is for an extended period of time.
If Edwards is sidelined for however long it takes, I expect they will continue to solidify Julius Randle as the attacking hub. Randle notably had 31 points and a team-high six assists in Sunday’s win.
He looked extremely comfortable attacking the paint, especially when guarded by smaller players. Randle has also done a fantastic job of setting up his teammates from both the perimeter and interior. This game highlighted the best aspects of Randle’s skills.
The Wolves were already counting on Randle to be one of the team’s primary initiators and may need to lean on him further. It’s also worth noting that Mike Conley (25) and Bones Hyland (19) both set season highs within minutes of Edwards’ injury.
Ultimately, however, this is a very fluid situation and something that all fans will be watching closely. If necessary, we will provide further updates on Edwards’ injury and wish the 24-year-old superstar a speedy recovery.
