Tiktok has officially launched the next phase of its European data separation projectwith construction now on going on a new data center in Kouvola, Finland.
As you can see in this image, this week local officials from Kouvola participated in the ceremonial launch of the new project.
Ticktok’s Kouvola Data Center ProjectThis is being built in partnership local developer Hyperco, will offer Tiktok more capacity to store EU user data in the region, in contrast to returning to China.
And it will also help Tiktok to take better with European leaders, by contributing to the local economy.
According to Tap:
‘The € 1 billion investment will offer a large boost for the economy of Kouvola. More than a thousand people are expected to be used during the peak construction, with around 200 permanent jobs as soon as the facility is fully operational.“
That will help Tiktok to meet its EU -regulatory obligations and hopefully avoid a similar fate as the US, where it is still confronted with a complete ban in the region because of the narrow ties with its Chinese home country.
The project is part of the “Project Clover” initiative of Tiktok, in which Al Tiktok has seen data centers in Ireland and Norway to store local user data. In the US, the “Project Texas” of Tiktok faces the same goal, and it hopes that these combined efforts will help to adapt to the expectations of the local market and therefore continue without further restriction.
Although, as noted, things on that front are not entirely clear in the US
We will find out later this month whether the US President Donald Trump Tiktok will again grant a stay of execution, by handling an executive order to maintain the enforcement of the Tiktok sales account.
But if a deal cannot be reached, Europe becomes even more important for the app.
Tiktok recently announced that it has reached a new milestone of 200 million EU users, and if it loses America, it will soon become his most important focus in developing its income systems.
As such, this can be a critical update and an important step to keep Tiktok in operation.
