A week after he became the youngest American who reached the last 16 in an ATP Masters 1000 since Frances Tiafoe in 2017, the 19-year-old student became the youngest American who won a Cincinnati open match since Tiafoe that same season.

After winning three victories last week in Toronto, ten fought through the opening round in Cincinnati with a 6-3, 6-4 result against qualifying Leandro Riedi. The #nextgenatp American has saved all six breaking points against him, according to Infosys ATP statistics, to set up a meeting with ninth seed Andrey Rublev.

“I think it is a bit easier to me than most,” said the former Junior World No. 4 about his rapid adjustment to the ATP tour. “I think something I am doing well is that I treat my matches pretty well. I remain quite sober and I don’t really let myself be some things that arise, and I think it’s certainly one of my biggest strengths.”

Ten achieved his fourth victory of the season against a top 10 opponent in the PIF ATP ranking list when he defeated Rublev in their first Lexus ATP Head2head meeting last month in Washington, DC he also has Daniil Medvedev (Australian Open), Alexander Zverev (Acapulco) this year.

“I try to believe that I can win every game that I play,” said ten about that upset. “I think it gives me a lot of confidence to go, knowing that I have previously defeated a few of these top boys. I just really go outside and I really enjoy those competitions.”

Third in the PIF ATP Live Race to Jeddah, ten is the best American in the rankings for qualifying for the next genes of Gen ATP presented by PIF.

Jenson Brooksby has now achieved eight of his 14 win on touring level this season in home after a 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-1 victory against Alexandre Muller. Among the six Americans who win on Friday are accompanied by Reilly Opelka, Emilio Nava, Tristan Boyer and Ethan Quinn in the second round, with Nishesh Basavareddy who closes the game of the evening at the Stadiumhof against Aleksandar Vukic.

Nava was a 6-3, 7-5 winner by 2022 Cincinnati champion Borna Coric. The 23-year-old was not confronted with a breaking point in the game and will then meet the fourth seed and Toronto semi-finalist Taylor Fritz in an All-American Showdown.
