In a season full of challenges for the Colorado Rockies there were numerous small bright places that peeped through the gray clouds.
One in particular was Rockies -Starter Tanner Gordon.
The 27-year-old right-handed person was brought to Denver in the Pierce Johnson Trade In 2023 alongside Reliever Victor Vodnik. Gordon made his MLB debut on July 7, 2024 and threw okay in eight starts that year, with 0-6 with an ERA of 8.65. Part of it could be due to the fact that he made the I-25 Drive between Albuquerque and Denver for most of that season.
But he was eventually permanently recalled on July 23, 2025 and had a number of great moments (including victories against the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks and Houston Astros).
In the end, Gordon finished his 2025 campaign with 15 starts under his belt (75 ⅓ innings) in addition to a 6-8 record and a 6.33 ERA. That era became second in the rotation behind Kyle Freeland (162 ⅔ ip).
“I think I have grown mentally in a certain sense,” said Gordon. “I am a bit wet and comfortable in the area last year last year, but I think I have grown mentally and that is the largest I have changed this year from last year.”
Gordon has worked on his self-confidence on the hill, both in the right mindset will stay before a start and brush, regardless of the results on the field.
“It is clear that we are all physically able to play,” he said, “but what really separates the really good players is their headroom. You see a lot of really good players in a funk, and often it is not physical, it is mental that she gets in that place. So I think practicing good mental habits, whether it helps yourself.”
And of course having big wins against big teams helped Gordon’s confidence.
“That’s how you start under your belt to go back and take those starts apart,” he said. ” What did I do well here? “And” What did I do badly? ” And then you learn from that, and it is clear that you have that start to build trust.
“Part of it is also talking to your team and talk to your teammates,” he continued. “There are guys here who have done this much longer than me, so choosing their brains about how they do things also helps.”
Gordon said that he specifically leaned on Austin Gomber and Kyle Freeland as experienced pitchers, but also made sure that she saw things from the other side of the album.
“I even spoke with the batters,” he said. ‘I will ask them:’ Hey, if you look at me today, what would you try to do? ‘And they are a bit about my arsenal and tell me how they attack.
He also leans on his colleague smokies, namely Bradley Blalock and Chase Dollander.
‘[We] Talk a lot about having the mentality to go outside, such as: ‘Forget a rookie, forget the team you stand for and if you perform your own fields there and you are dedicated to the field that you are going to throw, it makes the field much better, “he said.
“Our pitching coach [Darryl Scott] Always says: “The ball knows when you are not dedicated.” ‘
But there have been many excellent moments outside the field for the younger.
“I was injured in this game,” he chuckled, “but I think [the highlight of my season] was when I went to Chicago [on May 28] And I think, I think, more than 120+ family members there because I come from Champaign, which comes two hours south of Chicago.
“I threw well, I think, but the coolest was just so much support in the game,” he continued. “My father rented two charter buses to drive there, so it was great to get that support and my family there when I was there. It was real, very cool.”
In that start, Gordon threw 4 ⅔ innings and stood two points one on an RBI-Double by Seiya Suzuki Double in the first, and the other on a Pete Crow-Armstrong Homer in the fourth-on six hits with zero walks and one strikeout. He would then go on the IL with an oblique tension until mid -June.

And there is lessons at every highlight. For Gordon, having the right mentality was the biggest lesson of 2025.
“The trust aspect of it was so great for me,” he said. “Being able to go outside and trust that you have done enough work to go to your start to go outside and set up good figures, has been huge, just trust yourself and trust your capacities.
“It’s very easy to go outside and say:” Well, I’m just a rookie and there is Manny Machado “and he doesn’t care,” he went on. “It is very easy to get into that cycle of bad thinking. But I think I was only intent behind every pitch for myself enormously because I felt that I do – not really tying the field – and then I just turn a switch around and I am from now on, from now on, I just let it tear!” I think that has helped a ton “.
On the way to low season, Gordon hoped that the Rockies could string a good series in the last weeks of the season to end a good tone. But personally he also had some goals.
“To be honest, I just want to stay consistent and stay with what I do,” he said. “I don’t want to try to do too much, I don’t want to do too little, I just want to be consistent during these last few weeks and during the low season to take the next season with you.”
In a season of challenges, Gordon definitely offered an unexpected bright spot. He probably threw himself in the starting rotation of 2026, and it will be a matter of how the rest all shakes.
