Not starting on time
After Saturday’s tragic night in Edmonton, where the Jets gave up four goals in the first period, including two in the first five minutes, you would hope they would be ready. Instead, the same issues surfaced again.
Esa Lindell opened the scoring after just 44 seconds, firing a shot through traffic that neatly beat Eric Comrie for his fourth of the year.
Dallas had a 1-0 lead in the second, and just 1:16 into the frame Roope Hintz made it 2-0 on the power play. Just over a minute later, Alexander Petrovic put the Jets in an even deeper hole, giving the Stars a three-goal cushion as Winnipeg continued to struggle out of the gate.
Recoil
Despite the slow start, the Jets showed some adversity and came within one goal twice. Scheifele got Winnipeg on the board at 11:04 of the second when Kyle Connor fed him a one-timer from the left circle. Then, with 1:08 left in the period, he buried another one-timer from almost the same spot to make it 3-2.
Dallas extended the lead early in the third, but Stanley’s goal at 14:06 brought the Jets back within one. That was as close as they could get, though, as the Jets ran out of gas.
Special teams are struggling
For the sixth straight game, the Jets allowed a power-play goal, and they had four power plays of their own, including a crucial one with 2:30 left that could have tied the score. Winnipeg has now gone seven straight games without scoring on the man advantage.
