Three-time Paralympic medalist Ross Wilson puts his career on the line – Table Tennis England

Former world and Commonwealth champion and three-time Paralympic medalist Ross Wilson has announced his retirement from table tennis.

The three-time Paralympic medalist made the announcement in a post on Instagram, ending a career of incredible highs.

The 30-year-old from Kent found success on the international front shortly after his debut in 2011, winning Paralympic bronze in London in 2012 in the men’s 6-8 team event.

It was a feat he repeated in Rio in 2016, before having his best year in 2018, when he won gold in the men’s 6-10 singles at the Commonwealth Games in Australia in April and later became world men’s 8 champion.

Despite injury problems, he recovered to win another Paralympic team bronze in Tokyo 2020.

Wilson’s Instagram post read: “After 23 great years in table tennis, it’s time for me to say goodbye to playing the sport I love.

“Table tennis has been such a big part of my life. For fifteen of those years I have had the incredible honor of representing Great Britain, something I will always be so proud of.

“This sport has taken me all over the world, given me friendships that will last a lifetime, and memories I will never forget.

“It’s been an incredible chapter, and while it’s not easy to close, I’m really looking forward to seeing what comes next.”
