Three-time All-Star seen as Oilers achieve dream goal in goal

There has been so much talk and speculation about the state of the Edmonton Oilers’ goaltending, and it finally feels like an attempt at a solution is actually on the horizon.

First came the connection with the St. Louis Blues and Stanley Cup champion netminder Jordan Binnington, and soon after came word of their significant interest in Pittsburgh Penguins two-time All-Star goaltender Tristan Jarry.

While both Binnington and Jarry are solid options with upside, TSN analyst Marc Denis believes the Oilers should hold out for Nashville Predators star Juuse Saros, viewing him as their dream target in net.

Dennis said:

“My dream target, my dream goalie, is named Juuse Saros. If there is a world where Saros is not the starting goalie for the Predators, I will do everything I can to get Saros in an Oiler jersey,”

The 30-year-old Saros just entered the first season of the eight-year, $61.92 million extension he signed with the Predators in 2024. Despite his resume, the three-time All-Star has had a rough start to 2025-26, posting a 6-9-3 3.08 goals-against average, .889 save percentage and zero shutouts in 18 starts.

What to think of Juuse Saros’ recent battle

If this were two years ago, doing whatever it takes to land Saros wouldn’t even be on the Oilers’ minds. That said, 2024-2025 wasn’t great, and that carries over into this season, so how concerning is it?

You can’t gloss over the fact that it’s been a struggle for almost two years now, but Edmonton should use that to their advantage to low-sell a guy like Saros, who has long been viewed as a Vezina-caliber goaltender.

Juuse Saros Oilers trade

The average annual salary of $7.74 million is the main deterrent, but if Stan Bowman is able to lose some salary or get Nashville to keep some money in a deal, that won’t be a problem, especially as the cap continues to rise.

It’s a move that carries some risk, but so does Binnington or Jarry, so if they have the choice, Saros should be number one on the Oilers’ list and their dream target.
