The first line indicates the violation
Winnipeg was still looking for offensive contributions across the lineup, but that wasn’t the case Wednesday night as the top line of Kyle Connor, Vilardi and Scheifele combined for six points.
Vilardi got the Jets on the board late in the first inning, making the score 2-1 Capitals. Early in the second inning, he redirected a Josh Morrissey shot on the power play past Charlie Lindgren to tie the game. Scheifele pulled the Jets within one with less than five minutes left in the third, but again it wasn’t enough as Winnipeg fell 4-3.
You’d have to think that if the Jets were to get a secondary rating from the bottom nine, there would have been several games this season where they could have at least salvaged a point. Winnipeg has now lost five games by one goal in regulation.
Vilardi scores goal No. 100
Vilardi reached a pretty cool personal milestone in the US capital. He scored goal No. 99 in the first period, so you might imagine he was thinking about the milestone during the break. Less than two minutes into the middle frame, he tied the game with the 100th goal of his NHL career.

Salomonsson’s husband’s NHL debut
We knew Neal Pionk would make the trip but weren’t sure if he would play, so Elias Salomonsson stepped into the second duo alongside Dylan Samberg and made his NHL debut. Salomonsson looked confident and was ready on the blue line, making some crisp passes. He also had some expected rookie moments, including a turnover that led to Connor McMichael giving Washington a 4-2 lead. That is part of the learning process and mistakes can inevitably occur.
The six-foot Swedish defenseman logged 16:18 of ice time and finished with one block and two hits.
