Three militants arrested, arms and ammunition recovered in Manipur

Security forces arrested three militants belonging to different banned groups in valley districts of Manipur, police said on Saturday (Jan 10, 2026).

“An active cadre of the banned Kangleipak ​​Communist Party (Noyon) was apprehended from Kongpal Chingangbam area of ​​Imphal East district on Thursday (January 8),” a senior officer said, as he was allegedly involved in extortion activities, the officer said, adding that an envelope containing 10 notices was recovered from his possession.

“A 50-year-old member of the banned Prepak (Pro) was arrested from Amboikhongnangkhong area of ​​Imphal West district on the same day,” he said.

During a search operation, security forces recovered arms and ammunition from Ikop Pat area of ​​Thoubal District on Friday (9 January 2026).

“Weapons, including a country-made AK rifle, a hand grenade and bombs, were also recovered from Natum Ching and Sanasabi hill ranges in Imphal East district on the same day,” the officer said.

Security forces have been conducting search operations in Manipur since ethnic conflict broke out in May 2023. More than 260 people have been killed and thousands left homeless by the violence between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups.

The Center had imposed President’s rule in Manipur after Prime Minister N. Biren Singh resigned last year. The State Assembly, which has a term until 2027, has been suspended.
