Leicester City hired Marti Cifuentes In the summer it turned sour to bring him in after a successful spell at QPR. The Spaniard is said to have had a falling out with R’s CEO Christian Nourry and left after being placed on gardening leave.
It was hoped that Cifuentes could be the man to steady the ship after relegation at LCFC. However, hopes remained that they would appear in the promotion, and that is far from the case.
Cifuentes has been relieved of his duties after a 3-1 defeat to Oxford United left the Foxes in 14th place, six points clear of the play-offs. A new boss is now being sought, but given the club’s financial position they may not be able to pay compensation for someone already in place.
That said, we’ve highlighted three available managers for Leicester City to keep an eye on…
Maarten Martens
After numerous managerial changes in English football this season, there aren’t many options on the market that will appeal to Leicester City. As such, they could land a new top boss by looking abroad.
Come in, Maarten Martens. The Belgian was relieved of his duties at Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar just over a week ago. The bottom line was that they sat 8th in the league but were still close with a chance of automatic qualification for the last 16 in the UEFA Conference League.
The 41-year-old Martens oversaw 54 victories in 103 games and achieved a points percentage of 1.79. His team usually operated in a 4-3-3 formation, focusing on quick attacking transitions.
Jon Dahl Tomasson
Former Blackburn Rovers boss Jon Dahl Tomasson has been heavily linked with a return to the Championship since his sacking from the Swedish national team. Following interest from Norwich City and previously Middlesbrough, he could be someone Leicester City can take into account.
The Dane may have fallen short in international football, but he was praised for his work at Rovers. With limited support from a flawed ownership group, Tomasson built a side capable of playing striking attacking football.
Given some of the talent in the LCFC squad, Tomasson could be an excellent appointment. He works well with young people and has overseen technical improvements for many players at Ewood Park.

Russel Martin
Last but not least is Russell Martin, who will be determined to revive his managerial career after a damaging spell at Rangers. The 40-year-old has previously been monitored by Leicester City and may be back on the radar.
Martin’s problems at Rangers were well documented, and he received support for sticking to his high-risk playing style with a struggling Southampton side in the Premier League. However, that same philosophy yielded championship success with Swansea City and the Saints.
His spells at the Swans and MK Dons showed how he can successfully bring a culture and philosophy to a club. With LCFC in dire need of rebuilding – likely a long-term project – Martin could be the right man to oversee their next chapter.
