The NHL season is only a few weeks away and the Calgary Flames enter the 2025-26 season with almost the same selection as last year. Time will learn whether they can perform better as a team than last season and make their way to a play-off place, but individually there are a handful of players who can go up in the team’s record books. Let’s see who could end.

As it ended last season, the old flame Mikael Backlund ended the season with Lanny McDonald for the seventh of all time in goals. With only one goal, he will go to the sixth and beat the mustache man. Backlund could also pass Nilsson if he scores at least 15 this season. This would place him in goals as a flame of all time.

It is not surprising that the weather is backlund to insist on a team pile. This time he challenges former captain of former Flames Mark Giordano for all time in a flame. To always go to sixth place, Backlund only needs 18 assists to bind Gio for this, and 19 to pass it on to secure the place to itself.

Again, it is Backlund who shoots his way up on the charts. With 563 points he is only one behind Gary Ster for the 6th of all time. He almost certainly breaks this in the first month of the season. He has the chance to beat Johnny Gaudreau’s record of 609, but he should have a monster season to do this. He probably creaks that next season, assuming he will remain a flame.

Unfortunately, unless he scores 10, Backlund will always be stuck in second place as a flame. However, Blake Coleman is on eight career-goals, and when he scores two, he connects Giordano for ninth place.
Points by a Calgary Flames Rookie defender
Assuming everything comes out, the Flames Zayne Parekh should have with them for the full season. The record for the most points by a Rookie defender in a Flames uniform is held by Gary Ster, who had 18 goals and 68 points in 1985–86. Although not impossible, he would have to set up Lane Hutson-like figures while jumping from the OHL to the NHL. That is a big task.
Some more recent comparisons are Dion Phaneuf, who had 49 in the 2005–06 and Rasmus Anderson season, who had 19 in the 2018-19 season. Although the expectations are towering for the Rookie of the Flames, the hope is that he will play regular minutes and grow his confidence while making the leap to the NHL.
Parekh is currently the second-youngest score for the team when he scored his first NHL goal in Game 82 last season. Derek Morris hit him by being just ten days younger.

It is hard to believe, but Dustin Wolf is already working in the record books of the Calgary Flames. If he only records 17 wins, Wolf Rick Wamsley will pass in victories for the 10th of all time. If he sets up 27 this season, he will pass both Roman Turko and David Rittich to take eighth, and if he has a huge 36-win season, he passes Trevor Kidd to take seventh. Chances are that he will secure the eighth this season.
It is unlikely that he will end up in the top 10 for games played this season, but he only needs 29 games to pass Vladar for the 15th and 40 to pass Karri Ramo and Wamsley. When he starts 43, he passes Don Edwards for the 12th.
In this season it is expected that Wolf will be the clear starter for this team and would be able to earn a place in the record books for most games that are played in a regular season. Although it is unlikely that he will beat the record of Miikka Kiprusoff of 76 games played if he plays 63 games, he binds Jacob Markstrom for 14th place.
In his first full season, Wolf recorded three shutouts. If he can put two more this year, he will find his way to the top 15, connected to Mike Smith and Ramo. Three shutouts would bind him with Rejean Lemelin, and four would all of them pull him in the category.
Wolf is already a top 10 keeper in the shootout in Flames History, with three victories. If he wins four more games after overtime, he takes the second time the second time.
What to watch this season
The Flames have completed a number of major schedule changes in recent years, giving few skaters a challenge for al-time team records. However, the term of office and production of Mikael Backlund is worthwhile to keep an eye on this year, because he cemented himself as a great time for this franchise, and continues to make the case to retire when he hangs his skates.
Goalie Carrousel of the Flames is well established and earning a top 10 place in a goalkeeper category is less daunting. This year Wolf will find his way to several, assuming that he will remain healthy. Time will tell how far he climbs, but the dethron of tipper is a big assignment.
The most important piece to see is how Rookie Parekh is starting this season. With Calder ambitions this can be a huge season for the young defender. Will he find his way to the record books this season? Only one way to find out.
