Thomas Milic likely to make NHL debut against Predators

It’s been a little over four days since the Winnipeg Jets Connor Hellebuyck out so he could undergo a minor arthroscopic knee procedure, and we’re now two games into the tandem of Eric Comrie and Thomas Milic, with Milic still waiting for his NHL debut. So, when will he get the crease?
The simple answer is probably Saturday in Nashville, the second half of the Jets’ upcoming back-to-back. Comrie will probably start tomorrow in Washington against the Capitals and then again on Friday against the Hurricanes in Carolina. That would leave a pretty natural spot for him to give Comrie a break and hand the net to the 22-year-old. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but based on schedule and workload, this is the scenario that makes the most sense.

Even with the Jets struggling right now, I really can’t wait to see Milic get some NHL reps. I’ve followed his journey since his WHL days with the Seattle Thunderbirds, and both he and Domenic DiVincentiis have played great this season with the Manitoba Moose.

The New Westminster, BC product has started nine games for the Moose, posting a 5-2-2 record with a .921 save percentage (SV%) and a 2.14 goals against average (GAA).

Some may criticize the idea of giving Comrie four consecutive starts. And yes, it’s a lot. But he’s the starter now and he usually gives the Jets a chance to win when he’s in net. You can’t blame the 4-3 loss to Carolina or the 3-0 loss to Minnesota solely on him if the team can’t find a consistent effort or goal in front of him.

So I think we’ll see Milic in the blue paint on Saturday. We always knew he would get games, we just didn’t know when the opportunity would arise. Saturday feels like the moment.
