After 161 games there are division titles, a play -off place and positioning the late season for the last day of the regular season of 2025 MLB. During the weekend it was pretty chaotic, but in the last two days the play -off photo is a bit clearer.
So what’s on the line on Sunday?
First let’s continue what was decided.
All three races of the National League division are arranged, with the Milwaukee Bewers the Central, Philadelphia Phillies who took the eastern and Los Angeles Dodgers who conquer the west. Two of the three NL-WildCard spots were claimed by the Chicago Cubs and the San Diego Padres. The Brewers have also conquered Thuisveldvoordeel via the World Series.
Only the Seattle Mariners (West) won a division in the American League. The Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers have secured Playoff spots, where the Red Sox goes in like a wildcard.
That leaves a NL-WildCard place, two al-divisions and two already wild-card-ligplaces, although the latter comes with reservations. Reminder, all Sunday matches start in principle at the same time (15: 05-15: 20 hours et), making it a scene for more drama.
Al Central: Guardians of Tigers
After the Houston Astros lost to the Los Angeles Angels on Friday, the Guardians and Tigers only needed a victory or an astros loss to hit their postseason ticket. They took the better route and won, with the Guardians who defeated the Texas Rangers 3-2 on a walk-off hit by Pitch and the Tigers who could do the Red Sox 2-1. So both are inside and the Astros were eliminated for the first time since 2016 for the late season. Now it comes to Sunday, where the Guardians the Tiebreaker have over the Tigers. A Guardians wins or a Tigers loss gives Cleveland the central title. The Tigers must win and lose the Guardians to take the power station. If the Guardians win the division, this would close a remarkable comeback of a 15½ game deficit on 8 July.
