This day in Braves history: Braves sign reliever Jason Grilli to a two-year contract

2004: J.D. Drew leaves the Braves to sign a five-year, $55 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Drew put up big numbers in his lone season where Atlanta hit .305/.436/.569 with 28 home runs and a 157 OPS+.

2014 – The Braves sign reliever Jason Grilli to a two-year contract. He appeared in 57 games for Atlanta over parts of two seasons while posting a 3.73 ERA in 50 games. 23 innings. The Braves traded him to Toronto on May 31, 2016, in exchange for minor league pitcher Sean Ratcliffe.

1913 – The Sporting News reports that 15 men died from baseball-related injuries during the 1913 season.

1958 – The Philadelphia Phillies acquire Sparky Anderson from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for outfielder Rip Repulski and two other players.
