Isack Hadjar says that he left the thinking that his life was over during the first race of his Formula 1 career to the moon during his first stage finish in the Dutch Grand Prix.

Racing Bulls Rookie Hadjar crashed on the formation round during the opening round in Melbourne and was in tears when he ran back to the paddock in Australia. From that low moment in March Hadjar experienced his highest high as far as he scored a beautiful stage in Zandvoort, with fourth place during the majority of the race before he got a place when Lando Norris retired.

“After what happened in Australia, in the car, I of course thought my life was over,” said Hadjar. “But then you actually realize that it can happen and that you bounce back very quickly.

“To have a stage without too many miracles and not much going, no, I did not expect it, especially that soon in the season. Fourthly ending at Pure Pace would have been a powerful, powerful result. But yes, as a third is just … in the moon.”

Hadjar qualified impressively in fourth place on Saturday, but admits that he did not dream of a stage at night because he had no idea if he could keep the Mercedes and Ferrari cars behind him at a distance.

“An excellent day,” he said. “I didn’t expect that this morning woke up. I was very realistic. I knew there was George [Russell] Behind me and both Ferraris. I also didn’t walk on Friday – a long run – so I really had no idea. Crossing the third line is simply unreal.

“It was very difficult. Fortunately I had a good start to keep fourth place. From there, on the opening rounds, I knew Charles [Leclerc] would try to go for the move, what he did. I was really comfortable and on the brakes I made sure that I defended in the right way.

“Once I held him for a while, I actually realized that:” Ok, we have the autotempo to fight for big points. ” Towards the end of the race I had something like that, if something happens in front, I am actually in a stage finish, “and that is what happened.”

The result was not only the first in Hadjar, but the first under racing Bull’s guidance by Alan Permane as a team head, and he was full of praise for dealing with the occasion by his driver.

“Great. It has been a great weekend and a really fantastic race,” Permane told SiriusXM. “Of course I am incredibly proud of the team. The car worked well.

‘I was not nervous [pre-race]But to beat the Ferraris and the Mercedes was quite a challenge. We had the pace and it was actually quite simple. It remained in the front, pulled a bit away from Leclerc, fit in the following set tires and go, and create another opening. A brilliant race.

“Great from Isack-outright performance. He did exactly what we asked of him. There was early tire management with the One-stop when we took care of things, and he did everything we asked of him.

“You always get a bit nervous – you saw what happened to poor Lando [Norris] In the last few laps. Everything can happen, so that is always there. I was not nervous that he would do something crazy or threw it off the track or something like that, but you never know. Especially if a stage is ahead, it is always a bit stressful, but I also tried to enjoy it. “
