Thierno Barry dedicates his first Everton goal to the supporters

Thierno Barry thanked Everton supporters after scoring his first goal for the club in the 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

The French striker, who joined from Villarreal this summer, had a complicated start in his royal blue shirt. He had failed to score in 16 previous appearances, but came closer after a number of attempts were disallowed in recent games.

However, on Saturday he provided the finishing touch to Iliman Ndiaye’s lightning counter-attack just before half-time to help the Blues to their fourth win in five games.

“I only scored in the last two games [they were disallowed]Barry said.

“So when I came today, I knew I could score. And when I scored, I was very happy. This is for the supporters. I am very happy because I have worked for this. I don’t know how many games I haven’t scored, so I am very happy. The team helped me a lot and the coach too.”

“Every time I receive a message on Instagram, for example. [The fans] say, “I think you’ll score today.” They say this in every game, but in this game I received zero messages and I scored! So I’m thinking: please don’t message me!

Barry also revealed that Ndiaye made him a promise before the match, which he ultimately kept. “Before the match Ili said: ‘Yes, today I will try to help you score.'”

After scoring his first goal for the club, Barry will no doubt feel relieved. However, other aspects of his game, such as hold-up play, dealing with teammates and winning matches, are also improving as the 23-year-old continues to adapt to the Premier League.

“I think the striker is not just for scoring,” he noted. “You have to help the team with other things, like pressing a link, for example [player]. So yes, I think you can do more than score.

“I think if you look at my first match and today, it’s different. I’m trying to work with my body to feel stronger. So yeah, I think I have to keep going.”

Hopefully the pressure is off now and his confidence will grow, and a nice gesture from Ndiaye, who was true to his word, especially as Alcaraz was probably in a better position to score. I wonder what Beto thinks now that Moyes has made Barry his number 1 striker?
