Earlier this week we asked you to share the coolest car in your family with the class, and it turns out you all have a lot of great cars in your families. From vintage American cars to high-mileage daily drivers to imported exotics, we like to see a diverse selection of cars that are loved and appreciated by their owners. Sometimes the car enthusiast gene skips a generation or two, so a lot of people drive their family’s coolest car, and that’s great too!
My answer was my brother’s 2003 Subaru WRX bug-eye wagon, which he is actively converting into a more rally model after several years of lowering and tuning. My car is perfect for me – a 2017 Mini Cooper S four-door hatchback that has served me well as a city car and as a canyon carver – but I know my brother’s WRX has more street cred, so I’m happy to give it the title of coolest car in the family. These are some of my favorite answers, but feel free to go back and read the others.
Dad’s 300,000 mile S2000
My father has an S2000 with almost 300,000 kilometers on the odometer. That’s what I call living a full life.

Uncle’s stock Ford Model A
I’m the only car idiot in my family, so mine are the coolest by default, but my uncle is part of his local Model A club and has a diligently maintained and regularly trained Bone Trunk A that he drives to events and just tours the countryside, which is pretty cool in itself.

Aunt’s Mercedes-Benz Pagode 280SL
My 93 year old aunt still has a Mercedes Pagode 280sl, she’s had it since new, one of my favorite cars, but I’m not sure the last time she drove one herself.

My Fiat 500 Abarth
I think it would be the Abarth that I have had since 2012. I barely drive 2000 km per year (only in summer)

My father’s 1971 Triumph GT6 Mk 3
I’m going with my dad’s 1971 Triumph GT6 MK3. I distinctly remember being dropped off for kindergarten in it and being picked up with a Caprisun under the seat. It still has it to this day, albeit with more rust.

Luther Vandross’ custom Chevrolet Suburban
we had a Luther Vandross Suburban. Had a big sound system, custom tray tables for people sitting in the second row (bench seats were ripped out and captain’s chairs were installed), all the bells and whistles

My 1987 Porsche 911 Targa
My kids and siblings didn’t care about cars, so it would have to be my 1987 Porsche 911 Targa.

My free Ford Escape Hybrid
My family has several AE86 Corollas and MR2 Turbos in it… but I think my Escape Hybrid is the coolest. Why? It’s a “free” fleet car I get for work. Nowadays, a modern car with free maintenance, insurance and fuel is absolutely great.

Mom’s 160,000 mile 2001 Toyota Land Cruiser
My mother’s 01 Landcruiser. It needs some work, but at 260k it still runs well.

Dad’s 1989 Chevrolet Corvette, which had less than 30,000 miles
My dad has a 1989 Corvette convertible with less than 20,000 miles (bought for 6,000 miles). It feels like you’re driving a new C4. The digital gauges and convertible top make night drives in the summer a top experience.
