These 5 new Subaru models have the best MPG – Jalopnik

Subaru certainly has its own personality at car stories. That is, at least partly, due to the fact that four -wheel drive (AWD) comes standard with almost every model. That is probably the reason why the brand has sold so well in the northern states such as Alaska, Colorado and Washington, where roads covered with snow are the norm in the winter.

However, we must say that the fuel consumption on most 2025 models is quite decent for AWD vehicles. Of all models, the 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid does best with a combined 35 miles per gallon (35 mpg city/34 mph highway). The rest of the gas models are conventional ice cream vehicles, but some are specific to fuel efficiency. The inheritance can get up to 35 mpg on the highway, while the Impreza is not far behind 34 mpg. Even a few of the SUVs, in particular the cross trek and outback, can get more than 30 mpg on the highway according to the EPA.

However, we would fail if we did not mention this model year the only EV in the Subaru schedule. The “Miles per gallon” metric does not apply precisely to electric vehicles, but the EPA measures what they call “MPGE”, or “miles per Gallon equivalent.” According to this metric, 33.7 kWh is equal to 1 gallon gasoline. So the 2025 Subaru Solterra is rated with a combined 104 mpge (114 mpge city/94 mpge highway). Subaru says that the 2025 Solterra can go 227 miles on a full battery and promises that the 2026 model can go 288 miles. Two other EV models will also be part of the Line -up of 2026: De Trailseeker and the Uncharted.

2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid

We expect that the only hybrid that Subaru has offered for the 2025 model year will get the best kilometers of all its gas models. The Subaru Boxer engine and electric motor in the hybrid version of the Forester deliver 35 combined MPG and offers 35 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway, with a promised range of 581 mile. That is not bad, but it is not the best we have seen with hybrid compact SUVs. The Kia Sportage hybrid can, for example, get up to 43 mpg, but that is with front-wheel drive. The AWD version of the Sportage gets 38 mpg, which is still a little better than the forester.

In general there is not much that stands out about the forester. All highlights of the Forester Base -Trim on the Subaru website are fairly standard rate: Driver Assist Functions, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 8.7 inch grounds, 74.4 Cubic foot cargo volume and raised roof rails. However, we must admit that the responsive headlights of the steering wheel sound pretty cool. Four hybrid forester decorations are available, and each comes standard with AWD, as well as the X mode from Subaru, which optimizes the AWD in conditions such as mud or snow. At present, the 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid is supplied with a basic price of $ 36,595.

2025 Subaru Legacy

You can expect that non-performance companies are more economical than the SUVS SUVs of Subaru, and that is exactly what you get with the inheritance and Impreza. Subaru’s Sedan and Hatchback receive almost the same fuel consumption, with the inheritance that the Impreza focuses on just a smidge. When equipped with the four-cylinder, 2.5-liter engine, the inheritance is assessed on 30 combined MPG (27 City MPG/35 MPH highway).

This falls to 26 combined MPG (23 City MPG/31 MPH highway) with the 2.4-liter turbo engine, which is supplied as standard in the sports and touring XT decorations. The addition of that turbo compressor only gives you 260 hp. That is still 78 HP than the 2.5-liter engine, but we are not sure if it is worth the assessment in the fuel consumption.

The Legacy 2025 Subaru comes with the typical collection of clocks and bells, and we are impressed that this vehicle with five seats is equipped with eight cup holders. Apparently Subaru wants you to be prepared in case your group is extra thirsty. The basic finish of the inheritance starts at $ 26,810, but goes up to $ 40,110 for the Top Touring XT trim. If you want to get a new one, you have to act quickly, because this is the last year for the Subaru foundation.

2025 Subaru Impreza

The Hatchback model of Subaru, the Impreza, is above that with the inheritance when it comes to fuel consumption. The EPA assesses the 2025 model on 30 combined MPG (27 City MPG/34 MPH highway), when equipped with the four-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine. The 2.5-liter engine, which is supplied as standard in the RS trim, does almost as well at 29 combined MPG (26 City MPG/33 MPH highway). The 2.5-liter engine gives you 28 more horsepower than the 2.0-liter engine, but that still only comes to a total of 180 hp.

The 2026 model of the Impreza is already available, although the EPA has not yet released the fuel efficiency figures. However, Subaru says it will get up to 27 MPG in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, which will be a bit worse than the 2025 model.

There is nothing too flashing about the 2026 Impreza. After all, it is a hatchback. But you can choose the Moonroof if you want to feel that you live the dream. This model is supplied in just two decorations, the Sport and RS. The RS trim will provide you with a few standard safety functions, rear loading ports and an option to upgrade the audio system. Both decorations start with less than $ 30,000, which is not bad for an AWD vehicle of every size.

2025 Subaru Crosstrek

For a non-hybrid gas SUV, the 2025 Subaru Crosstrek is doing well for itself in terms of gas kilometer level. The EPA assesses it with 29 mpg combined (27 City MPG/34 MPG highway), when equipped with the four-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine. Interestingly, the 2.5-liter engine is assessed with almost the same figures-its that it gets 33 MPG on the highway, instead of 34. That has said that, the Crosstek Wilderness trim, which is also supplied with the 2.5-liter engine, gets a reduced 27 mpg. The 2.5-liter engine 182 hp, but that is only 30 hp more than the 2.0-liter engine, for almost the same fuel consumption, depending on the trim level.

The Crosstrek 2025 comes with a basic price of $ 26,560 and made the list of consumer reports with the best new cars below $ 30,000. The basic finish comes standard with both X-fashion and Hill Descent Control. But if you count on the foldable rear bream with double cup holders, you have to pay extra for the premium trim. Totally worth it.

We must point out that the Crosstrek 2026 will also be in a hybrid version. The EPA has not yet rated it, but Subaru says that the cross -trek -hybrid brings you up to 36 mpg, with a range of up to 597 miles. It starts at $ 33,995.

2025 Subaru Outback

You cannot write an article about Subaru models without mentioning the venerable outback. Fortunately, the Outback 2025 is part of this because it is one of the higher artists of the brand with regard to fuel efficiency. When equipped with the four-cylinder, 2.5-liter engine, this SUV will receive 28 combined MPG (26 City MPG/32 MPG highway). This falls to 25 combined MPG (22 City MPG/29 MPG highway) with the turbo engine with four cylinder, 2.4-liter engine, which is supplied as standard in the Onyx edition XT, Limited XT and Touring XT decorations. It is also standard in the wilderness finish, but only supplies 23 combined MPG (21 City MPG/26 MPG highway) in that model. If you opt for one of the decorations with the 2.4-liter with turbocompressor, you will get 78 extra horsepower with a total of 260 hp.

The new outback is the only medium -sized SUV under the top gas performers of Subaru, so it offers a higher towing capacity than the other models being treated here – 2,700 pounds to 3,500 pounds, depending on the trim level. The 2025 outback prices start $ 29,995 and rises to $ 44,730 if you choose the highest trim. From what we have heard, the Outback 2026 Subaru will be more expensive, at least at the basic level.
