The Young Star Bay of Biscay may have booked a ticket to take the Australazia’s champion Pacer who jumped to Roem after a historical win of Harnas in the richest race in the world, the tab of $ 2.1 million, in menangle last night (Saturday).
Conversations between trainers Emma Stewart, Clayton Tonkin and the owners will decide in the coming days whether the pair will bump into the $ 250,000 group 1 Victoria Cup in Melton on October 18.
“It’s logical as the next step, but like everything with this horse we leave the decision to Emma and Clayton,” said the managing of part -called Tim Bunning.
Bay of Biscay became the first pacer to tackle the Eureka tab twice and last year sent a blissful second for Don Hugo with a dominant victory for the front/ last night/
It closed 12 months of careful planning and some large sacrifices of connections.
“We had a ticket in the Wondermijl in March and rejected it. That was purely a decision by Emma and Clayton, who only watched one race … Coming back to win the Eureka tab,” said sub -owner Brett Coffey.
Only two months ago, Stewart and Tonkin broke off a trip to Brisbane for the $ 350,000 group 1 rising sun because they could not get a suitable flight and felt that a debilitating road trip could hinder the Bay or Biscay tab.
“We have actually kept him in cotton with this race in mind for a long time, but he is a big strong bull (stallion) and almost five now is the next step in the large large circuit competitions,” said Bunning.
“It is clearly a big step to give one of the greatest (pacers) all time in jump, but we have to do it for some time.”
A Victoria Cup-Start would almost certainly change a driver with Bay of Biscay’s regular driver Cam Hart, also the Resident Reinsman for title defender and double NZ Cup winner Swayzee.
Bay of Biscay’s Fokker and co-owner, Alan Galloway, the director of Alabar Farms, already looks beyond the racing days of the stallion.
“He is now super -hot ownership as a stallion,” he said. “I would now hit him back home and collect from him if I had my way, but I understand that the others want to race him.
“We would like to be in Alabar if the other owners agree and when it is the right time.”
Galloway was like a proud father, after having hunted Bay or Biscay’s mother, former star Pacing Mare Nike Franco, in the US after she withdrew from racing (with 32 victories and $ 913,870) and buying her to bring back to Australia and to breed.
Bay of Biscay is her foal and only one to race. He sold for an equal sale of $ 150,000 in the Unling sale of Nutlien Sydney 2022.
The dominance of Stewart about the first three running of the Eureka tab has been remarkable.
She won the inaugural 2023 race with Encipher, finished second last year (Bay of Biscay) and third (high above) and then had a record four runners in last night’s race.
Together with Bay of Biscay winning, Stewart had second (Fox Dan), fourth (Go Miki) and the fifth (Miki to Success).
“We love this race. Winning the first with Encipher was great, but coming back with this guy and after his second last year a better go, and the fact that he is such a special horse is above everything,” she said.
“The crowd, the atmosphere … What an incredible night it is. And even better if you win it.”
