Season 2025-26

UNH goalie commit Ryan Grout got off to a bumpy start this season with the Tri-City Americans in the Western Hockey League. Through his first four matches, Grout had three losses and a no-decision. He was pulled in the first period of two of those games. Overall, his goals against average was 7.51 with a Save% of .848. From his fifth match on October 25, Grout has dramatically turned things around.

Between October 25 and November 29, Grout started 7 games for Tri-City and lost only one in regular rules. During that stretch, he recorded 4 wins, 1 loss and 2 draws, a 2.83 goals against average and 0.911 Save%. His overall record improved to 4-4-2 with a 3.75 GAA and .889 SV%.

Highlights roll autumn 2025

During Ryan Grout’s successful seven games, he earned the No. 1 spot in one and No. 2 in the other. This highlight reel shows some of Grout’s saves from those games.

Last Friday, Grout faced one of the biggest competitive challenges a WHL goaltender could face. The Everett Silvertips came to town with the best record in the WHL, the second most goals scored and the second best Power Play% (30.2). Tri-City is ranked 14th in the 23-team league.

Everett outscored Tri-City 24 to 14 through the first two periods and Grout saved them all. The Silvertips dominated the third period, outscoring the Americans 16 to 4 and scoring four goals. Grout made several key saves during the match, earning the #3 ranking . His current record is 4-5-2 with a 3.77 GAA and .890 SV%.

Travel to the WHL

Tri-City selected Ryan Grout in the 4th round (#73 overall) of the May 2022 WHL Prospects Draft. Grout had just completed a very successful 2021-2022 season playing for Northern Alberta Xtreme U15 Prep in the Canadian Sports School Hockey League (see the stat sheet at the end of this post). His overall record of 19-0-0, 1.92 GAA, .928 Save% earned the CSSHL U15 Top Goaltender award. He also made the All-Academic Team.

In the 2022-2023 season, Grout lost only one of 13 games with Northern Alberta Xtreme U17 Prep and led the team to the 2022-2023 CSSHL U17 Championship. He then signed to play with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in the British Columbia Hockey League, in part to maintain NCAA eligibility. Halfway through a successful 2023-2024 BCHL season Grout is committed to UNH.

Grout played in the BCHL in 2023-24 and fall 2024. His overall record in 28 games was 19-7-2 with 4 shutouts. Statistically, he was a top 10 BCHL goaltender with an overall GAA of 2.30 and .919 SV%.

The NCAA’s far-reaching decision, in November 2024, to lift its ban on Canadian Major Junior players was a turning point for Grout. He could move on to the WHL and maintain his commitment to UNH. In announcing Grout’s decision, Tri-City General Manager Bob Tory said:

“I would like to thank the University of New Hampshire for working with us in developing Ryan. Ryan has a history of consistent and strong performance and was the first 16-year-old goaltender to receive an NCAA scholarship.”

Playing against tougher competition as a 17-year-old, Grout’s stats dropped to 2-7-2, 4.42 GAA, 0.874 SV% over the remainder of 2024-2025. His improvement so far this season bodes well for the future.
