Robert Macintyre did not expect much this week on the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
The last time we saw the Scottish Lefty, he celebrated a historic Ryder Cup victory with European teammates in the bus that Bethpage Black left. So he would be forgiven if he did not bring his A-Game to the old course in St. Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns after he did not approach the same level of preparation this week that he would normally do.
“I laughed when we drove the buggy back to the clubhouse,” Macintyre said in the Old Course on Sunday. “I did everything against the book this week, from the preparation, I set up on Wednesday afternoon. I know the golf courses. Plays 12 holes on Wednesday. The diet has not been good this week; I can confirm that. I have eaten many pick -up restaurants, fish and chips, many others.”
On paper everything pointed out that Macintyre was not a factor at the Dunhill. But Golf often delivers the unexpected.
The 29-year-old shot three consecutive rounds of 66 to end at the age of 18 under Par and won a weather-evorted title through four shots about his Ryder Cup teammate Tyrrell Hatton.
“Unbelievable. Every time you can win a golf tournament on these coasts is special, but just happy with the way I did it,” said Macintyre. “Played really nice during the three days, and yes, here we are.”

A week after 1-1-1 to help Team Europe to achieve a Ryder Cup victory in New York, the number 9 player-arranged player in the world professionally navigated his way in the wind battered by the wind by staying out of problems.
“It’s just the biggest thing to get over the golf ball and not to be afraid,” said Macintyre. “The biggest thing on the three golf courses is to stay out of the pot bunkers, especially outside the tee. And I did well.”
Macintyre has now opened the Genesis Scottish and De Dunhill on his home floor. With those two trophies that came in the couch, the man from Oban wants to go for the Scottish hat trick by winning his first major in St. Andrews, who will again organize the Open Championship in 2027.
“To win somewhere in the world is special, but for a Scottish I won the Scottish open. To win the Dunhill links at the house of Golf, there is no other place where you want to win golf tournaments, and the only one that might be, this would be an open championship in St. Andrews,” Macintyre, “” “” “Macintyre, told the DP World Tour After his victory. “But no, this is a special, special victory, and for me as a scotsman it just rises. It’s no secret now. A big championship is what I need or what I want.”
Macintyre finished second place in this year’s US Open and followed it with a T7 in the Open at Royal Portush. He knows the next step he has to take and believes that he is almost going the door to his first big title.
“But look, if I play every major for the next ten years, they are 40 chances, and I hope that one of those times I will fall over the line and if I do that earlier, we add that. But I have goals. I know I have the game. It is now just about combining Augusta, Augusta, giving it a go -a -go.”
But that is a focus for the future.
For the time being, Macintyre will enjoy some downtime and a whirlwind for two weeks that participated in the history of Ryder Cup and then won at the house of Golf.
“We will do our best,” said Macintyre about his upcoming celebration. “I don’t know if it will be tonight, but in the coming weeks we will have a nice party. Look, every time you can win, it’s hard to win, and yes, it’s just a great end of a good week.”
