Former India captain and former BCCI president Sourv Ganguly have given support to India’s participation in the Asia Cup collision of 2025 against Pakistan, saying that although terrorism must be convicted and stopped, “the sport must continue.”
“I’m okay. The sport must continue. At the same time, Pahalgam should not happen, but the sport should continue. Terrorism should not be done; it must be stopped. India has taken a strong attitude in the direction of terrorism … Sport must be played,” Ganguly told Ganguly Year.
India-Pakistan Group Clash Set for September 14
The Asia Cup is held in the UAE from 9 to 28 September, with eight teams for the first time: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, VAE, Oman and Hong Kong. India and Pakistan are brought together in group A, together with hosts of VAE and Oman.
Their group stage collision is planned for 14 September in Dubai and could be the first of a maximum of three potential meetings, including a likely Super Four-Showdown and a possible final on 28 September.
BCCI -Gastheren, Vae -Location
While India is officially the host, the tournament is held in the VAE under a neutral location agreement between the BCCI and PCB, which runs until 2027. The decision is intended to bypass ongoing diplomatic tensions and prevent direct hosting in India or Pakistan.
The Asia Cup broadcast agreement ensures that India and Pakistan are placed in the same group to maximize viewers and commercial profession.
Political tensions and calls to Boycott
The planned meeting comes at a time of increased tension between the two countries after the terror attack of April 22 Pahalgam, who claimed 26 civilian lives. India’s response to Operation Sindoor has further escalated cross -border sensitivities.
Criticism is online and under former cricketers that encourage India to boycott matches against Pakistan. Only weeks ago, India’s Legends (WCL) team championship pulled itself out of a match against Pakistani champions, hours before it would start.
Tournament -Logistics and Optimism
Despite the controversy, the ACC -President Mohsin Naqvi has mentioned this edition the “Asia Cup at its best”, with 19 games that are played in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
“This year still marks a milestone in the journey of ACC … This will be Asia Cup at its best,” said ACC -President Mohsin Naqvi
The ACC has approved 17-person squadrons and unanimously endors the VAE as a host during a meeting on July 24.
