The Secret Service blames the open trunk of the presidential limousine on a mechanical defect – Jalopnik

President Trump has ceded the US position as world economic leader to China committing horrific human rights violations here at home is a much bigger problem, but it’s also important to remember he is an international disgraceat. He has zero tact or manners, and he reportedly smells very bad. So it wasn’t exactly surprising to see him driving around in his presidential limousine, known as “The Beast,” with the trunk open, but it did make people wonder what the heck was going on.

Did the Secret Service forget to close the trunk? Did China Hack the Presidential Limousine? Was Trump too cheap to send another car to pick up the coffee table he found on Facebook Marketplace? Since Trump is known to have an unrequited relationship with the truth, we may never know the truth, but our friends out there Daily beast has contacted the Secret Service for an explanation, and officially the answer is “none of the above.”

According to the Secret Service, Trump’s open trunk can be attributed to a mechanical defect and has been repaired. And if that doesn’t sum up the experience of owning GM, I don’t know what does.

The Secret Service responds

In a statement to the Daily Beast, Secret Service spokesman Matt Fagiana said:

During the motorcade from Mar-a-Lago to Palm Beach International Airport, one of the motorcade vehicles’ trunks accidentally opened and remained upright for part of the motorcade route. No items were lost or moved during transit. The problem was determined to be mechanical in nature, was identified and has since been repaired.

Fagiana, who I’m sure no one in the White House has ever given a derogatory nickname, also reportedly added that the Beast’s trunk issue has since been resolved and has not affected the president’s trip (or his scheduled McNugget feedings). But while the Secret Service has commented on the Beast’s open trunk, neither Trump nor the White House have said anything about it. Also, no one said what could have been in the trunk when it flew open.

It’s also not clear whether a peek inside the trunk would be of any value to a hostile foreign government. You’d like to think that something as simple as an open trunk wouldn’t expose any vulnerabilities, but you never know. Chances are no one saw anything That valuable, but I’ve also seen enough spy movies to know that this is exactly the kind of thing the world’s best assassin could use to crack a president’s theoretically impenetrable security and plunge the US into political chaos. Not that we don’t already have enough chaos to deal with. I mean, have you seen anything the president has posted on TruthSocial lately?
