The rhythm of a city

I often make the same rounds around town. I greet the person who makes my coffee, serves my lunch and wraps my gift. There is something about the recurring meetings that gives me peace. I’ve always enjoyed knowing where I belong and who the people around me are.

My flower man at Hötorget gets a hug, whether I’m shopping or not. That’s how I want to go through everyday life – with some degree of consideration, without making a big deal out of it. I thank you for the espresso, ask how everything is, hold the door open. These are small actions, but they make the day a little more grounded.

I pay attention to how the girls in kindergarten are doing before Christmas and what the neighbor’s dog is going to do on New Year’s Eve. These are not decisive questions, but they keep me in touch with my environment. I notice that I only become part of the city when I actually participate in what is happening around me. Not so that anyone will remember me, but because my life unfolds in these everyday layers.

And then I come to a question that has become increasingly central over the years:
How do I want mine to feel right now?
