In 2018, Germany surprised the hockey world by going to the Gold Medal Game of the Winter Olympics. Although they took silver home, it certainly seemed as if the nation had arrived like a hockey force.
However, that was not the case during the Winter Games of 2022 in Beijing. Germany finished 10th and only achieved six goals in four games. It is clear that an important step back.
Now Germany has the opportunity to prove their doubters incorrectly and will have the help of Nhlers. Leon Draisaitl, Moritz Seider, Tim Stutzle, Lukas Reichel, Philipp Grubauer and Nico Sturm were the First six players selected.
Who else could come to them in Italy? Let’s see early how the schedule of Germany could form for the Winter Olympics 2026.
Other Olympic schedule forecasts from 2026:
The projected schedule of Germany for the 2026 Olympic Games
| LW | C | RW |
| JJ Peterka | Leon Draisaitl | Tim Stutzle |
| Wojciech Stachowiak | Lukas Reichel | Dominik Kahun |
| Josh Saman | Nico Sturm | Leo Pfoderl |
| Frederick Tiffels | Tobias Rieder | Yasin -people |
| Justin Protection | Julian Lutz |
| LD | RD | G |
| Jonas Muller | Moritz Sider | Philipp Grubauer |
| Maksymilian Szuber | Leon Gawanke | Mathias Niederberger |
| Kai Wissmann | Fabio Wagner | Arno Muefense |
| Korbinian Geibel | Leon Huttl |
On the surface, the German selection seems to be top -heavy. No one will doubt the possibilities of Draisaitl, Seider and Stutzle. And it is quite possible that we mention JJ Peterka in the same category in February.
However, there is some underestimated talent outside those four. Tobias Rieder, Yasin Ehliz, Dominik Kahun, Leo Pfoderl, Frederick Tiffels and Jonas Muller are all Olympic veterans. Everything but Rieder skated in both the 2018 and 2022 tournaments.
It is sufficient to say that Germany will have a scoring depth. An upper line of Draisaitl, Stutzle and Peterka will certainly be dangerous. But beyond them, Reichel, Pfoderl, Kahun, Wojciech Stachowiak and Josh Samanski can score secondary. Sturm and Rieder can also be attacking.
Expect to see a lot of Muller and Sider on the defense. Sider in particular will probably be almost half of the game on the ice, he will be a mainstay about the Power Play, Penalty Kill and important five-five situations.
And talked about the Power Play, the German PP1 is real. Sider at the top with Stutzle and Draisaitl on the flanks, Plus Peterka and possibly Pfoderl or Reichel low. That is a lot of firepower.
Back to the blue line of Germany Maksymilian Szuber and Leon Gawanke complete their top four. And it would not be surprising to see Kai Wissmann step in a greater role.
Grubauer should, not surprising, see a majority of the starts. When he is finished, he is a first -class goalkeeper. A redemption story can be a nice bow for Grubauer after losing the starting role at De Kraken in Seattle. And when he falters, Mathias Niederberger waits in the wings to board.
Final word
In all likelihood, Germany ends somewhere between their last two placements silver and 10th place. That said, they have enough talent at top level and Olympic experience to make some noise. They will probably be a dreaded matchup in the quarterfinals and can sneak into the semi -final.
Final cuts: Dominik Bokk, Kristian Reichel, Maxim Schafer, Veit Oswald, David Lewandowski, Matthias Prachta, Marcel Nobels, Patrick Hager, Marc Michaelis, Alexander Ehl, Marcel Brandt, Lukas Kalbie, Eric Mik.
