The New Orleans-Pelikans enter the 2025-26 season as an incredibly slept team, mainly because of the hatred they received for the loss of a future first round pick to set up Derik Queen. The decision to act for Queen has been taken. In my opinion, the entire NBA media decided to neglect all the good Joe Dumars, did this out of season because they didn’t like the move he made during the tap evening.
But for me the work of Dumars this season goes outside the addition of Jordan Poole, Kevon Looney, Saddiq Bey and the three Rookies he has added. For me the best he did, the pelicans in a position to tackle any shortcomings in the course of this season.
What I mean by that are the Pelicans have a lot of talent and depth, but to achieve their goals, someone will have to get up, especially outside the bank. When they are healthy, the pelicans have a perfect sixth man in Jordan Poole, but outside of him they don’t have anyone who has a safe role from the bank.
With the way Dumars filled this selection, however, the pelicans can do an exchange to tackle what they have when the trade deadline rolls around.
The pelicans can make a splash or complete their selection even more
Come halfway through the season this is what I expect that the rotation of the pelicans will look:
PG: Dejounde Murray SG: Herb Jones SF: Trey Murphy PF: Zion Williamson C: Kevon Looney 6: Jordan Poole 7: Saddiq Bey 8: Jose Alvarado 9: Derik Queen 10: Jeremiah Angsten
My reasoning behind not having Jordan Hawkins of Yves Missi for the fears and Queen is that the Front Office has just invested a lottery in both men and will probably put Willie Green busy to play both. If my prediction is good, the pelicans need a different wing of the sofa.
Although I think that depth is crucial for the success of this team, it would be worth exchange one or both if Missi and Hawkins do not play for a player who meets a need. In addition, if a star player such as Trae Young or Lamelo Ball were available, these two could be packed with some concept capital and Dejounde Murray could be interesting.
Assuming no stars are available, the pelicans could still get a quality trade player in exchange for Missi or Hawkins. Boys such as Keon Ellis, Julian Champagnie and Ochai Agbaji all stand up in me and would be good additions to the second unit.
I know it is incredibly early to think about next year’s trade deadline when the low season is not even technically over. But at the same time I have the feeling that these are conversations that the Pelicans already have front office.
