Curtis Sliwa says he will not leave the Race of the Mayor of the New York – even if the knives are out for him.
The pressure is deposited from business leaders, Maga World influencers, independent and moderate Democrats for Mr. Sliwa to leave the race, so that the anti-Zohran Mamdani mood can merge around one candidate and at least have one shot to defeat the 33-year-old Democratic Socialist State Assembler. The growing consensus among these groups is that mayor Eric Adams is the candidate to go back.
Supermarket magnate and former Republican candidate for mayor of New York, Jon Catsimatidis-Die Mr. Sliwa has employed with his WABC radio station when the Red Beret-bearing crime hunter does not say that he supports Mr Adams. He got up at 75 Main in Southampton on Saturday and told a group of assembled New York Power players that the big obstacle now Mr. Sliwa takes out.
Hedgefonds billionaire Bill Ackman, who gave half a million dollars to Governor Cuomo in the primary, Posted on X On Wednesday he met the gentlemen Adams and Cuomo this week and decided to support Mr Adams. “My collection meal is that Adams can win in the coming elections and that the governor must go aside to maximize the chance of success of Adams,” he posted.
Other real estate managers and Republican politicians tell the sun that the field must consolidate quickly and a ground operation must be set up to combat the well -oiled democratic socialists of America of Mr Mamdani. They say that Mr. Sliwa, who won the Republican nomination, has no chance to win in a city where Democrats surpass Democrats far over the Republicans.
However, the 71-year-old founder of Guardian Angels is on his ground. He tells the New York Sun that he is not coming out of the race. It is also too late to remove the name of a candidate from the vote, unless he dies or leaves the state.
“There is no price or something that can be offered that would jump out of this race,” Mr Sliwa tells the sun. He says he is like Robert Deniro in the film “Deer Hunter” with a gun against his head.
“You could place myself in that situation, and I will say a thousand times, no, I will stay in the race. There is no way to get me out. I can’t say it graphically,” says Mr Sliwa.
Mr. Sliwa thinks he can win the elections in November with only 31 percent of the votes in a busy field. In 2021 he ran for the Republican ticket and lost to Mr Adams with 28 percent of the votes. Since then he has been campaigning for a rematch, but the few general election polls released so far shows him that he is doing this cycle worse.
This year’s election will be a busy field. Mr. Mamdani is walking on the democratic and working family lines. Mr Adams is running for re -election on two independent lines that he has made. Mr. Sliwa runs like a Republican.
Mr Cuomo’s name will be on the vote on an independent line that he has created, although he has not yet said whether he will actively campaign. Anyway, his name recognition will ensure that he yields a considerable number of votes. There are also a few other candidates who run on independent lines, but no poll with considerable percentages.
A Honan Strategy Group poll that was released last week-the first post-primary poll on that Mr Sliwa will receive 7 or 10 percent of the votes, depending on the field. A general election of the Manhattan Institute surveyReleased before the primary, Mr Sliwa shows who earns 13 or 16 percent of the voices, depending on the field – enough to help Mr Adams win if all Sliwa voices go away.
Those who are afraid of a Mamdani Mayoralty view on the polls and say that the smart move is to support Mr Adams. The only other choice would be Mr. Cuomo, who was trounded in the Democratic Primary last week by Mr. Mamdani.
“Everyone is currently in panic mode,” said the president of Empire State Properties, Suzanne Miller, to The Sun last week. “I think all the money is starting to flow in for Eric Adams.”
Mr. Sliwa says that these power players “have to take a deep breath.” He says they sound like a colored lover who is looking for a Rebound Fling. “The rich and the rich who have put all their chips on Andrew Cuomo are upset. They are ashamed,” he says. “They thought Cuomo would have a coronation, and they told me:” Don’t feel bad, Curtis, you can’t win. “
“I should listen to you now that Eric Adams will win?” he says.
Mr. Sliwa says that he has the support of all five Republican party chairs, including the daughter of Mr Catsimatidis, AJ Catsimatidis, who leads the Republican Party of Manhattan. He says he is about to get $ 4 million to matching funds of the board of elections of the city, which will help him release his message. His campaign now only has $ 54,408 in the bank.
“You can’t just jump at that moment,” says Mr. Sliwa about obtaining matching funds. “You should return all the money – and by the way all the invoices that you promise you pay if you get the matching funds, you have to come out of your pocket.”
Mr. Sliwa says that even a phone call from President Trump and that a vacancy in his administration would not be enough to leave the race. That idea was driven by some Republicans. However, Mr. Sliwa clarifies that such an offer was not made.
“I would talk to him with respect, and say:” Thank you, Mr. President, for offering that job, but the only job I am interested is mayor of the city of New York, “he says.
Mr. Sliwa says that he is also not interested in closing a deal with Mr Adams to lose weight in exchange for a deputy mayor of public safety. “We can’t handle each other,” he says about Mr Adams, “that would be like having two scorpions in a cognac glass.”
“We are at Curtis and we are behind Curtis, and we are waiting for Curtis to define his next step,” says the chairman of the Republican Party of Brooklyn, Richie Barsamian, to The Sun. “Whatever Curtis concludes, we will support it.”
