“Since the Supreme Court (SC) abrogated Article 370 (in 2019), all that is feasible is statehood. Statehood means special status for us,” Mr Karra said.
This is the first time since the reading of Article 370 that the Congress has openly decided to shun any demand for special status for J&K from the likes of the ruling National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Meanwhile, Mr Karra said Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s frequent visits to J&K were indicative of the security situation in J&K.
“It is not normal for the Home Minister to visit J&K regularly. I have been saying all along that militancy confined to Kashmir has now shifted to Jammu too. Around eight districts have been affected by militancy,” Mr Karra said.
However, Mr Shah in New Delhi maintained that the situation is under control, he added.
