In the context of franchise history, the Pittsburgh Steelers followed a non-traditional approach to the NFL-NFL out of the 2025 season. And after one competition the results seem to be bearing fruit.
After the Steelers had lost their last six games of 2024 and expanded their play -off drought, general manager Omar Khan was daring, especially on the attacking side of the ball. Khan exchanged a second round pick for receiver DK Metcalf and then rewarded him with a four -year contract extension of $ 132 million. Then, after months of Rendez-Vous, the team has inked four-time MVP Quarterback Aaron Rodgers to replace Russell Wilson. And in June, Khan carried out a final skill, in which both cornerback Jalen Ramsey and the tight end Jonnu Smith of the Miami Dolphins were acquired.
All four newcomers left their fingerprints on the Topsy-Turvy, 34-32 Triumph from Pittsburgh about the New York Jets in week 1. In particular, the team’s attack was effective scoring the most points of the Steelers in a season opener, no turnover and scoring on six of their 10 non-Game-Bezingen.
While the Run game of the Steelers got away, an average of 2.6 net yards per almost with -0,146 EPA per game, the passing attack of the team found life. Pittsburgh generated eight explosive passes the second most since the start of last season and 0.196 EPA per game.
Although Rodgers was only solid in his team debut-ending with a 57.9 pff-passing figure with zero large throws and a turnover-worthy game on First Review-Bood his new supporting cast great help. Metcalf entered four of his seven goals for 83 yards and four first downs and three explosive profits, while Smith caught five passes for 15 yards and a touchdown to close the first half.

A total of 70.1% of the passing yards of Rodgers came after the catch, and his average target depth was only 5.9 meters. In addition, 65.6% of his fitting attempts were short of the sticks, his highest since week 11 in last season. It was clear that Smith’s goal was to use the post-Catch skills of his game makers, while mixing well-designed completion, including play-action playing.
The superficial box score numbers from Metcalf and Smith may not be astronomical, but the two offered a significant improvement in one criticism: recruiting after the catch. The new duo of Pittsburgh combined for 96 yards after the catch, good for 10.67 yards after the catch per reception between the two of them. All in all, the stalkers built up 171 meters after the catch, their second most in the last 22 games.
One of Pittsburgh’s biggest attacking pitfalls last year was the inability to eliminate extra Yardage, because the team was in total yards after the catch 24th. But with Metcalf and Smith now on the Roster – and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith who find ways to get the ball in his hands – the offensive ceiling of the team is certainly higher.
