Carroll Shelby never lived on the past. He always looked ahead. “My favorite car is the next,” he once said. Now Shelby American continues to build on that inheritance in the 7th generation of the Ford Mustang. The American Tuner has just released teaser images of a mysterious Mustang model. With a caption that easily reads: “The next” The car is prepared for a revelation during the upcoming Monterey Car Week.

Monterey is where some of the world’s most elite cars collect, from Coachbuild Bugattis to the newest in the world of track-bred hypercars. Shelby that launches something here means that it must be really extraordinary. Ironically, AC cars this year is the official sponsor of the Pebble Beach Competition.

So far, details are scarce, but there are still enough that we can unpack from the teaser image. A broad shoulder, the TRI-Bar-Tijdlights that are unmistakably S650 Mustang, and a hint of the swan neck on a potential car, designed to do work. The body looks wider than any standard S650, which probably offers wider wheels and a track-ready posture.

Now, what Shelby will fill under the hood, everyone’s gamble, but historically, Shelby American has preferred Whipple SuperChargers to Ford’s 5.0-liter Coyote V8. Expect the output to exceed 800 hp.

The Stock Mustang Dark Horse, on the other hand, makes 500 hp of his naturally drawn set up. What all this could mean is that this new Shelby Mustang needs serious chassis reinforcements: improved suspension, massive brakes and sticky tires. Possibly even lightweight carbon fiber components.

This also marks Shelby’s second controversial swing on the S650 platform. In January Shelby American unveiled his GT350 variant of the S650 with well -known tricks: a Whipple Supercharger, Borla -outlet and suspension -tweaks.

But this new teaser suggests something much more radical and seems more a spiritual successor to the Old GT500. Could it even be a street-legal tribute to Ford’s $ 300,000 Mustang GTD? We don’t know yet. Larry Chen, the renowned car photographer, has already seen and shot the car, but he will remain tight lips for the time being.

But in the end it is lacking in this comparison, curious, Ford itself. In contrast to earlier collaborations on the GT350 and GT500, this new Shelby seems to be an independent effort. The blue oval has remained silent about new co-developed Shelbys, instead, his own six-digit Mustang GTD and the track-oriented dark horse model and even pushing a new inspired variant of Fox-Body. Exactly what Shelby has in the store will be unveiled on August 13. View this space.
