The 2026 Subaru Outback contains a few adventurous upgrades, such as a charging space at the back for packing more equipment. Of course that extra space is possible thanks to the Boxier outside the Outback, which has been polarizing to say the least. Nevertheless, the assessment between adding space and removing the traditional, car -like style of the outback at least offers a measurable advantage. It is a different story with the new rear lights, which also work as a measuring device.
There are absolutely regular diploma diploma over the rear lights, making them look a bit like rulers. Moreover, you could use them for things from the Subaru type, such as measuring a fish that you caught during camping or comparing the size of screws in the hardware store, and gardeners can turn to them to help clean up their planting. However, the markings are not good at a distance for both centimeters or centimeters. Then there is the fact that the rear lights have a soft curve where they change the corner in the bodyside of the vehicle. The rear light markings do not seem to compensate for this, so you can’t really use the entire length of the lights to measure.
Now the outback is planned to go on sale later this year, and at that moment you could possibly switch off your own ruler, apply to the rear light markings and remember how they relate to your desired measurement system before you use them. Or maybe it’s time for the world to convert to subimeters.
Other hidden new functions on the Outback 2026
It is great that the outback has a built -in ruler back, but that is just one of the new hidden functions of Subaru. There are also remarkable upgrades of the advanced driver assistance functions of the outback, for example, which you will notice until you use them or need them. One of the most welcome is Subaru’s hands -free driving aid technology. For the first time ever you can get some outback decorations, on some highways, while enjoying level 2 autonomy with which you can remove your hands from the steering wheel (but still requires constant supervision from the driver).
Another new ADAS technology that can fly under the radar for most drivers is Subaru’s Emergency Stop Assist at Safe Lane selection. If the driver has a kind of medical crisis and stops recognizing warnings from other Subaru ADAS systems, this new function can pull the car to the shoulder of the road and first inform First Responders.
There are also some capacity boosters hidden under the skin of the outback. Go to the rough stuff to discover the improved four-wheel drive system that can reduce the wheel cabinet and offer better stability on the curves, and if you have to activate X mode, you can now use a handy switch on the steering wheel. Hidden or not, these are even more reasons to love a Subaru.
Do other cars offer rulers?
This may seem like an off-the-wall, but you know that we would not ask if there were no other vehicles with built-in rulers. And there are. Some of the best -selling vehicles in the country are even supplied with real built -in rulers who are clearly marked for us and metric measurements. We are talking about medium and full-size pickups, and more specifically, equipped with multifunctional tailgates.
The tailgates of Ford, Chevrolet and GMC can quickly be configured in many different ways to meet your needs, from opening only sections of the gate at the same time to deploying integrated beds. They can also be arranged to form flat work surfaces, a bit like stand-up agencies, and these are indeed supplied with cast rulers. It is a bit more logical here, because it is easier to imagine that someone rolls in a pick -up to a workplace and have to measure and cut a 2×4 then do the same in a new outback.
Reler-out-rusted tailgates are available on the Chevrolet Silverado and Colorado, the GMC Sierra and Canyon, and the Ford F-150 and Ranger, but not the RAM 1500, which may be better known for tailgates that can fly open while you drive. It must be hidden with a ruler hidden under the console for the middle, where you can also find two math tools, such as a degree arch, a few mathematical formulas, a graph for converting fractions to decimal places, and more. It all comes down to a nice advantage for pick -up -owners.
