Peter Berce: “Same goes for the Devils. New Jersey Devils fans aren’t sure which direction they’re going Tom Fitzgeraldand then he said I didn’t really feel like pedaling Dougie Hamilton. The Devils were quiet at the deadline, Dave.
Dave Pagnotta: “They were working on it too, like a lot of teams. There was a lot of activity all day and all week. But obviously everyone wants action. Yeah, the Devils, they were just engaged. They were talking. They were looking for a first-line caliber player. I think they were fishing more in the bigger ponds.”
NHL Rumors: Will New Jersey Devils trade Simon Nemec or other defensemen?
And Simon the Germanhis name, popped up a few times. And I think one of the reasons why there is no appetite but at least the willingness to listen to Simon Nemec again is that they are looking for a first-line player. So if they were to move Nemec, it would be for that.
And part of the reason why it seemed like they felt comfortable going that way, moving a body on that back end, a young body on that back end, is because they have Anton Silayev, who is in Russia now, 19 years old, left shot D is doing well there. The expectation is that he will remain with the team or sign with the team after his season.
His contract in Russia is up, I believe it ends after the season, and I’m pretty sure they’re going to do a good job of getting him over to this side of the pond to work with the Devils organization in some capacity. So keep that in mind in the summer or spring perhaps. But it seems like this is something that will be on the horizon. Now. He’s a left shot. Nemec is right.
Then, (Jonas) Siegenthaler, his name was there too. They listened to him. (Johnathan) Kovacevic, I think, to some extent, even though he’s a complete no-trade. But they had some pieces they wanted to talk about. And they were looking for that first line piece again. I think they will resume that again in the summer.”
NHL Rumors.com Note: It’s clear that Simon Nemec’s time at the Devils from New Jersey could well come to an end. As GM Tom Fitzgerald said Friday after the trade deadline, he’s a part of our organization until he’s not. There is a belief that he is willing and open to a trade. Nemec is an RFA and has seen something Lucas Hughes got and could ask for the same. Nemec just wants a chance to play more minutes.
NHL Rumors: Rangers, Trocheck, Schmaltz, Hurricanes and a trade came in too late
Regardless of what happened with Hamilton, the New Jersey Devils will pay his $7.4 million signing bonus on July 1 and try to sign him. But they want to do a hockey trade that makes sense. Is Willem Eklund That impactful first-line caliber ahead for the Devils? New Jersey should move Nemec in a deal for one Jordan Kyrou, Robert Thomasor someone of that ilk.
Again, Fitzgerald is in sync with Devils ownership and David Blitzer, so it will be interesting to see what moves he makes and if he is included.
